Julie's tales of training and racing in the sport of mountain biking. Monday, August 9, 2010. As athletes, there are so many reasons that can prevent us from racing, such as illness or injury. Not just because she is one of the best female mountain bikers of all time, but because of her stature and what she has accomplished in her life already at such a young age. Tuesday, July 6, 2010. The BC Bike Race 2010. I would like to say that I am a firm believer in living by flying off the seat of your pants (not a big planner, just winging it; advice from my mentor and teacher Zoriah Miller). I did not scope out any trails, or have any insight really about what to expect from the BCBR. You could tell who the locals were on the prologue; they had the hometown advantage for sure. Last year at the TOM it was my first time in Squamish and I really had no idea what the course was like and came ill prepared for it. But since my dismal performance from last year I was never going let it happen again. I had a year to prepare myself for this event and I was going to get some excellent photos in 2011. The night before the race it rained in Squamish right until around 7:0oam on race day which made trails muddy in spots. The town has done an amazing job of preparing for the estimated 70,000 fans that will soon invade the tiny village. The town, which was liberated by the Canadians in World War II, is located 30 minutes north of Brussels, Belgium. Kyle Fry, Wendy Simms and Pepper Harleton are the first athletes to arrive. The rest of the team will arrive today.
