3001 Miles to Seattle: December 2008
http://yellowsubaru.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
3001 Miles to Seattle. Sunday, December 7, 2008. What happens when you turn two kids loose with a MacBook. After having received some crap from various fronts about not updating my blog (with the prevailing affront being "even Tom. Has updated more often than you have") I won't procrastinate on the Thanksgiving entry any longer. I decided to drive to Augusta, GA to spend the holiday with my brother Glen and his kids. I even picked up my dad on the way, making the 17 hour drive that much more tolerable.

3001 Miles to Seattle: October 2010

3001 Miles to Seattle. Friday, October 15, 2010. Mount Washington, et al, et al. Despite the forecast of 29 degrees, 50 mph winds at the summit, not to mention rain and snow on the way, we decided to give it a shot. Not the best idea we've had, and we turned back after only about a mile on the Tuckerman Ravine trail. We then drove to the Mount Washington Hotel, where we walked the grounds, ate, drank, and relaxed. The next day was the ziplining canopy tour! Thursday, October 14, 2010. We drove up the day...

3001 Miles to Seattle. Monday, June 27, 2011. 2nd annual BRAK, part 4. List of things that can kill you in the Brooks Range. 1 Mauling (bears, wolves, moose, musk oxen). 5 Rabid small animals (foxes, etc). 6 Mosquitos (Ok, not really. Alaska mosquitos do not carry disease. But according to a ranger talk at Coldfoot, death from blood loss would occur if you were naked and helpless for four hours. The more you know.). Instinctively, what does one do in this situation? So I acted on instinct, dutifully star...

3001 Miles to Seattle. Friday, October 17, 2008. Last week, we went to the Culinary Institute of America. In Hyde Park, NY. The CIA is to cooking as MIT is to engineering- the premier destination for aspiring student chefs willing to undergo a grueling two or four year program for the chance to graduate as one of the best chefs in America. It's also a beautiful campus, but they don't allow any pictures inside any buildings. The Lobster and Goat Cheese Flatbread. We went to the FDR Museum. The next day...

3001 Miles to Seattle: January 2009
http://yellowsubaru.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
3001 Miles to Seattle. Saturday, January 31, 2009. Republica Dominica, Days 3 and 4. Finally some nice weather! I don't know, but at the end of the day, I couldn't walk any more. Alice took a few pictures from the boat, possibly while I was leaning over the side feeding the fish with the breakfast I had eaten a few hours earlier. Spent most of the rest of the day lazing on the beach, thanks to good weather and my inability to walk. Thursday, January 29, 2009. Republica Dominica, Day 2. Not a whole lot!

3001 Miles to Seattle. Saturday, June 18, 2011. 2nd annual BRAK, part 2. Following Trembley Creek wasn't terribly difficult at first. Other than the constant rain, and the fact that both of my boots were leaking, the main obstacle is the creek crossings. I don't know, geologically, why this happens, but streams like this generally have a side you can walk on (usually a rocky or gravelly "coast") and a side you can't. For example:. UP NEXT. could it be. sunshine? Posted using BlogPress from my iPad.

3001 Miles to Seattle. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Man: 0, Wild: 1. I was always aware of the possibility that my multiple day trip alone in the Alaska wilderness might end prematurely with me saying "ENOUGH! The story begins on the Dalton Highway. The highway is primarily used by trucks, and was featured on a season of Ice Road Truckers. Which I must now go back and watch! Grayling Lake (there's a moose swimming in it! My trek into the Arctic Wilderness began in north side of the Brooks Range. Its nice to h...

3001 Miles to Seattle. Saturday, May 16, 2009. Fish Muir Woods, ice cream, and Napa. Made it to San Fran after surviving an uneventful, if somewhat turbulent, 6:00 AM flight out of Boston. After lunch at Fish. In Sausalito, went for a 3.6 mile hike in the Muir Woods, north of San Fran. Alice took more pics than I did, but here's one for now:. And the bridge on the way back to San Fran:. And made it to Napa. Today is vineyard day, and it's supposed to get to 97 degrees. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
