I have been blogging about my own creations (at A Little Crafty. But when looking for ideas I love the sites with a couple of new ideas to start each day. Dinosaur carry bag with play mat. Here's the dinosaur carry bag with play mat I made. I think the pictures mostly speak for themselves. I drew a lot of inspiration from this beautiful play mat. Growing Salt and Sugar Crystals. The other day Mr 5 asked to do one of the experiments in his science book (Awesome Experiments, by Trevor Cook). We didn't follow the instructions exactly, but the general essence was dissolve sugar in hot water and dissolve salt in hot water, put a string in each solution and wait for crystals to form on the string. When my son was younger he was cars obsessed, anything with wheels was much loved. We started with a cardboard garage. When he was 1. We gave him a commercial plastic garage when he turned 2, but it just didn't last even though he's a fairly gentle child. Eventually I decided it wouldn't be too much work to make a wooden, more robust version. Unfortunately it's so long ago now, I don't have any plans etc to share. Birthday Funny Face Biscuits. A quick treat for Mr 6 to take to school to share with his class mates for his birthday. Quick, because he only decided at 5pm the night before that he'd like to take something. I used a gingerbread recipe (the biscuits don't spread too much when cooking) and then iced them and added a malteser nose. Apparently they went like hot cakes. It's always nice when a last minute decision works out nicely. I hope it makes her feel terrific while she's starting at her new school.

Cheap, easy and quick; making your own kaleidoscope is a great activity to do with the kids. The finished product of our lions tessellation canvas. Inspired by the lizards on Mrs Bearden's Art Room. Each child painted their own lion and then they were glued to the canvas. Long haul flying with a 14 month old or 15 month old toddler. So we booked our tickets for a long haul flight (24 hours including stop in the middle) plus road trip of more than 17 hours in total (over a week or so) and of course the returning flight. With 14/15 month old toddler, a 5 year old and 7 year old. Then I started googling what to do with said toddler in a plane.
