A year / - in Peru. Sunday, October 30, 2005. A mototaxi (a motorcycle converted into a taxi with some plastic and wood) carrying some people and some reed fishing boats along the beach, with a gorgeous dock in the background. A wall from the Huaca del Lun Moche ruins in Trujillo depicting a reed fishing boat. Fishing boats made of totora reeds. What did they use when they didn't have styrofoam as a flotation on the end? A friendly fisherman resting in the sun let's us play with his catch - cangrejos.

The 11 hour case (notice the singular of "case") was, needless to say, long, and I'm not convinced that it was particularly beneficial. However, I have high hopes for tomorrow. A year / - in Peru. Wednesday, November 30, 2005. Busy Days. I've decided to call hospitals by the city zone rather than the actual health facility. Whether it is true or not, it makes me feel like I'm protecting confidentiality better since I'm talking about patients. Yesterday in El Augustino saw a case of. Advanced case scrofula (oozing lymph node TB) the likes of which I had not seen anything close to before- in an HIV positive prisoner. Posted by AMJG at 9:52 PM. Tuesday, November 29, 2005. AMJG: December 2005
http://amjg.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
A year / - in Peru. Monday, December 19, 2005. Have burned myself with the C H tap confusion a few times, and keep trying to throw my toilet paper into garbage pails but otherwise have had an easy time stepping back onto US soil. What I missed most besides family and friends? In talking to my parents', godparents, and aunts and uncles among the first questions asked is, what are you eating? They all marvel at the 1-2 starch punch so common at every peruvian meal - the rice AND the potatoes. In the song a...

AMJG: January 2006
http://amjg.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
A year / - in Peru. Tuesday, January 31, 2006. A very good day in Ica. The Monday daytrip to Ica. Goal: Meet with the head of the regional health system, bring all the materials for MODS, go to all the health centers where we want to collect data. 5am Breakfast. Start the 10 page NYTimes article on Haiti. Too depressing to finish. Without coffee (4 hour car ride ahead of me, uncertain bathroom stop situation) I would rather starve all day than work up the motivation to make the lunches I planned to pack.
