Early Self-Help: Douglas Fairbanks’ “Laugh and Live” | Get It? Got It. Good.
https://craighodgkins.wordpress.com/2012/06/27/early-self-help-douglas-fairbanks-laugh-and-live
Got It. Good. Thoughts Both Casual and Considered on Media, Movies, Literature and Life. Early Self-Help: Douglas Fairbanks’ “Laugh and Live”. We’ve long sought to improve our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual selves, and advisers have always arrived on the scene to show us the way. When the student is ready, the teacher appears, right? But we don’t need to read very far in the one of the oldest books around to discover that all advice is not created equal. In chapters titled “Taking Stock ...
Memorial Day, Ernie Pyle and Saying Good-bye | Get It? Got It. Good.

Got It. Good. Thoughts Both Casual and Considered on Media, Movies, Literature and Life. Memorial Day, Ernie Pyle and Saying Good-bye. Some have heard of Ernie Pyle because of his Pulitzer Prize for dispatches from the front lines of WWII, written at a time when being an “imbedded” journalist was the exception rather than the rule. Others may have seen him portrayed by Burgess Meredith in the 1945 biopic “Story of G.I. Joe.” I’ve stood beside his grave. By Craig Hodgkins on May 27, 2013. You may find it ...

100 Years of Louis Prima: An Appreciation – Craig Hodgkins
http://www.craighodgkins.com/2016/03/21/100-years-of-louis-prima-an-appreciation
Skip to Main Content. Events & Conferences. 100 Years of Louis Prima: An Appreciation. To one generation of fans, he was the “Wildest” show in Vegas and Tahoe. To another, he was the voice of “King Louie the Most.”. To Sam Butera and the Witnesses, he was known simply as “The Chief.”. For more than five decades, Louis Prima played it pretty for the people, and the people loved him for it. The switch to brass made sense for a cool cat with more than nine lives. While Prima may have found his greatest ...

The Blog In My Eye: Gerry Niewood
http://migantgue.blogspot.com/2009/02/gerry-niewood.html
The Blog In My Eye. Posted by Tony Guerrero. If you know anything about my musical life, you know I was largely influenced by famed flugelhornist Chuck Mangione. This isn't a blog about him, though, but about his saxophonist, Gerry Niewood, who played on many of Chuck's early landmark records and rejoined him on tours over the last few years. Gerry died on Continental Flight 3407 yesterday, as did Chuck's guitarist Coleman Mellett. Rest in Peace, thank you for the music. Ahhhthe blogworld. Whereas in...
The Blog In My Eye: On my way outta here...
http://migantgue.blogspot.com/2009/01/on-my-way-outta-here.html
The Blog In My Eye. On my way outta here. Posted by Tony Guerrero. I had to fill out a survey today. In the age category, I noticed that out of the six circle choices, my selection was past the midway marker. I am, officially, "over the hill" and am, apparently, on the downward slope. I'd better make the most of my last two circles! This entry was posted on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Tuesday, January 13, 2009 . The Blog In My Eye. One for the band geeks. Posted by Tony Guerrero. I've often joked that I don't mind when my things get damaged or stolen, because it means I get to buy new. Everything's replaceable, right? Not so, it turns out. I was reminded by my friend Kurt Witt at Yamaha instruments that my trumpet, from the very in-demand Xeno YTR8335RG line of Yamaha Professional Series Trumpets, is the ONLY one ever manufactured in the brass color. Every other one is silver, like the picture.

The Blog In My Eye: UPDATE TO LAST POST
http://migantgue.blogspot.com/2009/01/update-to-last-post.html
The Blog In My Eye. UPDATE TO LAST POST. Posted by Tony Guerrero. After I wrote my last blog, I thought "Why not share my fan moment with the man himself? So I felt compelled to drop Gene a little email via his website, just for kicks. I figured that since our Starbucks meeting was so brief, I might as well tell him why it was meaningful to me. So, the topper of the story - he posted my letter on his website and thanked me yet again! Yes, I am. Click on this picture to see it:. Ummm - Stalker Much?
The Blog In My Eye: Proud of my Pastor & Country
http://migantgue.blogspot.com/2009/01/proud-of-my-pastor-country.html
The Blog In My Eye. Proud of my Pastor and Country. Posted by Tony Guerrero. Yesterday, I was very proud to see my pastor take the podium at the inauguration. Seeing someone you know in an international moment is indeed a strange experience! The picture above was taken as the staff of Saddleback Church - his staff - gathered to watch him. That God has allowed me to live in this country will not be lost on me. Okay, on we go to this next season of history! Links You Should Check Out. Bobbo The Elephant Boy.

The Blog In My Eye: Another Freddie Post
http://migantgue.blogspot.com/2009/01/another-freddie-post.html
The Blog In My Eye. Posted by Tony Guerrero. Hubert Laws and Stevie Wonder. Yesterday, I was honored to be among the 300 or so mourners at Freddie Hubbard's funeral. To be there as so many living jazz legends paid tribute to another who has passed…well, it will not be forgotten by me anytime soon. Blow the trumpet, Freddie. You were the greatest. Got It. Good. Thoughts Both Casual and Considered on Media, Movies, Literature and Life. Memorial Day, Ernie Pyle and Saying Good-bye. Bull;May 27, 2013 • Leave a Comment. At Punchbowl–the dramatic National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu–where he was re-interred following his death, in action, on an island north of Okinawa on April 18, 1945. Several years ago, I came across one of his most famous columns. Early Self-Help: Douglas Fairbanks’ “Laugh and Live”. In the centuries since, a wide v...
