Fishing news and opinions. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Dillon Reservoir was the site of a Southern Ohio Bassmasters club tournament Saturday, then the Chuck Murray Benefit Tournament Sunday. The club tournament was won by Kenny Fulks with five bass weighing 8 pounds, 5.2 ounces, well ahead of Kevin Samson, who had five bass weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces. Just a quick note to everybody: I know I've been negligent in keeping things active since fall, but there hasn't been much going on and work's been keeping me busy. A few nesting pairs of eagles were found along Lake Erie, but elsewhere nothing. Osprey, at least nesting birds, were gone from Ohio. WIth gas over $4 a gallon, driving 78 miles one way makes for an expensive day of fishing. It didn't start off well. When I headed out to Buckeye Lake this afternoon to catch the weigh-in of the Perry County Anglers' Leroy Sheppard Memorial Open, I didn't expect much. I was sure a few fish would be weighed in - somebody would find a few. I also wouldn't be surprised to see at least one big fish brought to the scales. It was cold and I knew being out on that lake today was an attractive prospect. I was told the wind chill was 15 degrees when the tournament started.

Anyway, Bub Cooksey's annual season-ending tournament at Dillon was held Nov. 6 with nine boats (16 anglers) competing. Willard and Mark Hensley walked away with the victory, bringing in four keepers that weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces. Rick Fifield finished a strong second with two bass weighing 4 pounds, 9 ounces. Will that be my last fishing trip of the season?
