Musings of a Cranky Cat Wrangler

Musings of a Cranky Cat Wrangler. Tuesday, January 28, 2014. I used to enjoy watching the Animal Cops shows on the Animal Planet channel. The ones where they rescue a half dead dog or cat from the hands of an evil owner, attend to its medical needs and care at the city's expense, then find it a home. Warm fuzzies at the end of the episode. Same thing with space and funding: most shelters have the 2 2 rule: under 2 months, under 2 pounds equals euthanasia. I worked during the spring (kitten season) an...

Musings of a Cranky Cat Wrangler: February 2013

http://crankycatwrangler.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Musings of a Cranky Cat Wrangler. Saturday, February 16, 2013. Today was a shot clinic day, and with good weather and the promise of spring we were busy. It was the typical mix of new puppies and old clients, those who were happy with us and those who will never be happy. BM: Is the dog here? ME: No, the owner is. He can't get near the dog. He needs to tranq the dog so he can get close enough to cut the collar off. BM: Does he look stupid? ME: How smart can he be if the dog has an effing embedded collar?

http://crankycatwrangler.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Musings of a Cranky Cat Wrangler. Sunday, July 22, 2012. I've been neglecting my little blog lately. Recovering from my accident and subsequent job loss has left me a bit uninspired. So today I'll turn over the keyboard to Princess Pout, who has plenty of opinions on everything. It's about damned time my human stepped aside and gave me some spotlight. She insists that my first post here be a sort of PSA. Since she controls my food I'd guess I better humor the squirrely blonde. There's a flake of hay comi...

Musings of a Cranky Cat Wrangler. Sunday, March 25, 2012. I see it all the time in public bathrooms: women washing their hands like they're scrubbing up to perform surgery, carefully not touching the towel dispenser, and using the paper towel to open the bathroom door. Even most grocery stores provide antibacterial wipes to wipe off carts before we use them. People don't want other people's germs around them. Would you sit in a room with people sneezing without covering? As I explained here. Vaccines are...

Musings of a Cranky Cat Wrangler. Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Sure, They're Acting Normal, But. Eating and drinking normally, along with normal bathroom habits are always a good sign. But it's no guarantee that your pet is in optimum health. Well pet checks on a regular basis are always encouraged. But in this economy with money being tight we are seeing pets that have had problems go on so long that immediate action is necessary, and usually expensive. Links to this post. Drafts with Dots: It all starts with Black or Red

http://draftswithdots.blogspot.com/2010/07/it-all-starts-with-black-or-red.html

Life at Iron Ridge Sport Horses. A Note about Sugarbush Draft Horses. I see it over and over again, and no matter how many times it's said, it's still wrong. Sugarbush Drafts are just an Appaloosa Draft Cross". Wednesday, July 14, 2010. It all starts with Black or Red. The "black" gene is actually called "Extension of Black" and is represented with an "E" or "e". Now, the first thing you have to know, is that all horses produce red pigment. Even the black ones! So, now to the fun stuff! Ash, a grey aged ...

Life At The Front Desk. Friday, August 12, 2011. This person is probably the biggest psycho I have met in my short hotel career. This is a very long story, so I'll just hit my favorite highlight right now. Guest: "Don't call me that! My name's not 'ma'am'. Is your name 'ma'am'? I continued to call her 'ma'am' for the rest of the phone call. I didn't think she'd like my alternative choice any better. Monday, August 1, 2011. Caller: I wanted to know the last time your rooms were renovated. Me: ( long pause.

I am I suppose it's because I usually work mornings and therefore don't really deal much with guests when they're having problems with the internet, AC, internet, door locks, internet, number of towels in the room, and internet. Oh, and did I mention the internet? When people ask for late check-out, I ask them how late they'd like to stay. The response I am not. Well, what's the latest we can check out?

Life At The Front Desk. Thursday, August 26, 2010. The New Guy, Part 2. Aaaand he quit (without doing the night audit during his shift last night). Wow. That was faster than I expected. We have a new front desk associate. Well, I guess. Isn't really the right word anymore. He's been here for over a month. But you wouldn't know it from the things he does. In the time he's been here, he's:. Chewed on the ends of all the pens at the desk. Somehow changed all the vacant dirty rooms to vacant ready -. The pro...

Life At The Front Desk. Monday, January 31, 2011. Private Things Should Be Done In Private. At my old hotel, I once read a GSS (guest satisfaction survey) that said our public computer should be in a more private area. It was in a very public space - by the front desk, next to the breakfast area door, so anyone who walked by could see the screen - but who cares? So he can watch porn in the lobby? Apparently, that's exactly what he needed it for. How can he even get to that? I asked. "Isn't it blocked?

Life At The Front Desk. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Some Things Make Me Very Happy. I came home today and my mother asked how work was. My response? I'm so glad this isn't my career for life.". But anyway, back to today. There was a request in one of the reservations, a woman staying for 9 days, to be on the first floor near the outdoor pool. So I rearrange the room blocking to give her the one. I want to talk to a manager! I'm spending the better part of 3 weeks (since when does 9 days equal 3 weeks?
