Beever Living: In a Cabin in the Woods...
http://beeverliving.blogspot.com/2009/07/in-cabin-in-woods.html
Tuesday, July 14, 2009. In a Cabin in the Woods. It was a bit windy when we were dining al fresco at the Lovely Bella Donna (our friend Serena's cottage near Haliburton). And of course dark, as cocktails and sunsets were a bigger priority before eating. The tea lights kept blowing out, so Lukas grabbed some plastic cups and water and all of a sudden voila:. Candlelit dinner for six. And good to see all priorities were in order. x. July 15, 2009 at 9:05 AM. So pretty. So peaceful. July 21, 2009 at 9:23 AM.

Beever Living: California Dream-Killin'
http://beeverliving.blogspot.com/2009/05/california-dream-killin.html
Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Here's that awful mix of sadness and pride again. I just learned that California's Supreme Court has upheld Prop 8, or Prop HATE as many of our facebook friends have angrily typed. The religious right and opponents of progress are always using the "think of the children" line. What about all the children who are/will be queer, and those being raised in loving queer families? Which appears along with portraits of 8 other couples as the #4 "reason to love Toronto: 5,493 same-sex coup...

Another day in the life of well, me! Irssi and Screen and Growl, oh my! Over the last few weeks, I’ve been getting accustomed to my new job here at Mozilla. Something that is used very extensively here is IRC chat. Since the last time I used IRC for work was about two jobs ago, back when I was solely working on linux desktops, I didn’t really have much experience with the various IRC clients available for Mac. Colloquy. Here is how to do it:. Kill all current fnotify sessions ps awk '{if($0 /fnotify/ & $...

All systems suck | tech ramblings
http://laurathomson.com/2011/05/all-systems-suck
May 23, 2011. I’ve been thinking a lot about this idea lately. I’ve spent a lot of years as an engineer and consultant fixing other people’s systems that suck, writing my own systems that suck, and working on legacy systems, that, well, suck. Don’t let anyone fool you. All systems suck, to a greater or lesser extent. New systems have the parts that haven’t been built yet, so you’ll hear things like “This will be so awesome once we build feature X”. That sucks. Here’s the punchline: sucking is like ...
