Back to Wrecks Index. Vickers Wellington near Ben Alder. While bagging some remote Munros in 2007, in the Ben Alder region, took the opportunity to visit the remains of a Wellington which crashed on the 10th December 1942. Not much remains but I was in the area anyway so it was a pleasant diversion. Pack mules allegedly removed much of the wreckage near the time of the crash hence the lack of remains. Looking from the wreck site down towards Loch Ossian from the Bealach Dubh. See the Big Picture!

Back to Wrecks Index. Vickers Wellington on Ben Rinnes. On a excellent weather forecast in July 08 I decided to go for a walk to the top of Ben Rinnes. Indeed it did turn out to be a lovely day and during the walk I checked out the remains of a Wellington bomber that crashed on the 14th November 1943. I didn't expect much at the site and indeed little remained but still a nice walk and a few fragments to examine. One of the main wreckage areas by the way. See the Big Picture! See the Big Picture!

Back to Wrecks Index. Vickers Wellington in Glen Affric. The shattered remains of a propeller blade I spotted outside the Alltbeithe Hostel on my way to climbing the days Munros. See the Big Picture! Myself at the crash site about 1 km away, set the camera self timer then run like crazy to the propeller and hold it up! See the Big Picture! One of the radial engines with all but one of the cylinders detached, the other cylinders are scattered throughout the site. See the Big Picture! See the Big Picture!

Back to Wrecks Index. B17 Flying Fortress at Ben Edra Skye. In the Summer of 1999 Flash and myself first looked for this B17 (Heroic Failures). Finally, more than nine years later, I returned to Skye to look for the crash site coming in from the correct side of the mountain this time! A far more successful outcome was the result even if I did have to trudge for miles through a peat bog in the rain! See the Big Picture! Myself examining possibly part of the wing structure. In August 08 Flash and myself set off to examine a wreck which was something a mystery to us, armed with just the grid ref for the wreck (thanks to Stick Ballard for that) and our trusty GPS we headed off to a seldom trodden piece of boggy hillside. After a four mile trek we got to the site and we weren't disappointed! Myself in the main crash site area holding one of the pistons from the single radial engine we found at the site.
