Snippets from a media office. Tuesday, July 03, 2007. Of Tenants and Houses without Windows. They say a life sans books is like a room without windows. I could never have imagined the former but that the latter exists came quite as a shocker to me. It all started the day my current landlady said those three dreaded words to me - U MUST VACATE! Life has never been the same. My quest for a house turned into urgency, urgency into desperation and desperation into do-or-die thou must. Well, to imagine that a ...

Stories u can't afford to miss. Wednesday, February 15, 2006. The Death of Handwriting. We spend our working days tapping into computers. We communicate with each other via email rather than letter. And today, as chip and pin technology becomes compulsory on the high street, even our signatures have become obsolete. Could it really all be over for handwriting? When did typing become better than handwriting? The fact that you don't, it postulates, is the reason graphology exists. Links to this post. Let m...

Stories u can't afford to miss. Monday, October 27, 2008. I was raped and now I don’t want to be victimized by the Orissa Police. On 24th August around 4.30 pm, hearing the shouting large crowd, at the gate of Sivyajyoti pastoral centre, I ran out through the back door and escaped to the forest along with others. We saw our house going up in flame. Around 8.30 PM, we came out of the forest and went to the house of the Hindu gentleman who gave us shelter. Do you know what will be the consequence? Sr Meena...

Stories u can't afford to miss. Saturday, September 22, 2007. Make pepper spray available at low price: Police study. New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI). Snippets from a media office. Sunday, March 14, 2010. Of Homemade Sundaes and Licking Lips. It's not easy living up to Hot Chocolate Fudge standards. But methinks Swaty has mastered the art of this perfect sinful delight. Hmmmm, if only it didn't have so many calories. Lest we have hordes of people rushing to Swaty's place and trying to get their hands on these scrumptious treats, let me remind you that icecream-eating sessions at her home are invite-only events. Did I hear any groans out there?

Snippets from a media office. Sunday, November 11, 2007. Of Cynical Reporters and Beatific Smiles. There are few rewards in journalism but the biggest one of them is when your work inspires society to do something. The usually cynical Ambika Pendharkar was pleasantly surprised when a reader rang up her paper and spoke to her about a piece she had done about an NGO for mentally-handicapped children in Pune.
