I know no 'island earth'. but no matter, continue. Saturday, July 29, 2006. Haiti, the Dream Vacation. Tired of those boring old island getaways to the Bahamas, Jamaica or Trinidad? The adventurous traveller might well consider that hidden jewel of the Caribbean- Haiti! First, a few tips from the U.S. Consular Service-. Criminal perpetrators often operate in groups of two to four individuals, and are disposed occasionally to be confrontational and gratuitously violent. Criminals sometimes will seriou...

buy the ticket, take the ride: September 2005
http://betternow11.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
Buy the ticket, take the ride. Wake me up when september ends. Sunday, September 25, 2005. The song that started it all? In fact, the song was never a big hit for anyone. It made only a brief chart appearance in the early 60's, but that didn't stop it from becoming a staple in nearly every Liverpool/Merseyside rock group's repertoire during that period. There's certainly nothing earthshaking about the song itself; it's a catchy enough little rocker in the Chuck Berry mode-. And I'm talking to you right n...

I know no 'island earth'. but no matter, continue. Friday, June 30, 2006. All You Need Is 'Love? This is sounding cooler and cooler all the time. To be honest, when I first heard about it, I imagined a bunch of Vegas dancers doing a typical Vegas show set to Beatles' songs. But apparently, it's much more than that. Check out this article-. Betting on the Beatles in Vegas. A raft of other celebrities are scheduled to show up, too, including Blondie’s Debbie Harry (fresh from her nasty appearance at the Ro...

I know no 'island earth'. but no matter, continue. Sunday, November 19, 2006. Beatles 'Love' cd review. The Beatles, Love. Sunday November 12, 2006. Some of this is painstaking technical restoration. After the Beatles swapped touring for the studio, they and Martin became experts at squeezing a quart of sound into a pint pot, extending the limits of four- and eight-track recordings by 'bouncing down' tracks. Today's technology has let the Martins reverse the process, giving instruments and voices...Love ...

Piled High and Deep: June 2005
http://piledhighanddeep.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
Piled High and Deep. Thursday, June 23, 2005. What's In a Name? My other family nickname is Tune, same type of origin, infinitely more palatable; but feeling sure of the affection that accompanies its use, I don’t have enough of the old Hun in me to insist that my family members stop using whichever nickname they prefer. Didn’t he isn’t she wasn’t that-? One could definitely be to give us the ability to bore other people with details we’d be too embarrassed to gas on about in face-to-face conversation:.

Piled High and Deep. Tuesday, July 26, 2005. That gust of wind . . . Understandable. I did a powerpoint presentation to help, and threw in a couple of fun but hopefully effective Monty-Pythonesque cartoon-collage illustrations involving Michelangelo’s David and the Venus de Milo. I wish I could go back in time to that mountaintop for just a few minutes, to tell him that his words made it. Nor do I forget Uncle Sam - for the student loans that made this enterprise possible! Sunday, July 24, 2005. I saw an...

I know no 'island earth'. but no matter, continue. Tuesday, August 22, 2006. I found a copy of this 1931 Marx Bros. movie the other day at Half-Price and I've just watched it. (There's another 'Monkey Business' from the fifties with Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe which is very funny.). In the years since, I came to love the Marx Brothers and eventually saw all their films, but 'Monkey Business' has always been elusive. It was never shown at conventions and an earlier videotape I had of it was defective.

I know no 'island earth'. but no matter, continue. Sunday, May 28, 2006. Top of the Pops. Despite the famous 'Lennon/McCartney' credit, hardly any of their songs were really co-written in a 50/50 sense. Nearly all were mainly one or the other; the collaboration came in adding a line here and there, maybe a middle break, such as Paul's 'woke up, fell out of bed.' bit in John's 'A Day in the Life.'. The last Beatles song to make the top spot was 'The Long and Winding Road' in 1970, and it was Paul's. B...
