Creating the Godcomplex

Tuesday, May 27, 2008. Time to Tumble Down - Again. Well, it's time to officially close this blog as the next chapter of my life begins. I realized this after the last post focused on residency issues and had little to do with medical school. I have ascended to the highest rungs of medical education to this point and can no longer content myself as I look down on those still struggling to make the ascent. I don't even have an ID any more for my school, so it's time to move on. Well, Okay Then. But whatev...

Creating the Godcomplex: More Political

http://creatingthegodcomplex.blogspot.com/2008/05/more-political.html

Tuesday, May 13, 2008. As noted in the last post, the problem with gas getting this high is that the US is not, and most likely will not be for a very long time, equipped to handle a huge increase in price due to city structure. So then, what are we going to do? Mass influx into the crime-ridden and impoverished inner cities? Demand our city planners make transportation miraculously affordable, available throughout the day, and easy to use? Not likely in many areas. Buy motorcycles and scooters? I listen...

Creating the Godcomplex: Where Will It Go?

http://creatingthegodcomplex.blogspot.com/2008/05/where-will-it-go.html

Monday, May 12, 2008. Where Will It Go? While driving my daughter to preschool today I passed a gas station that, just yesterday, was selling gas for $3.55 a gallon. Today? 370 Where did the 15 cents come from? I'm actually in an area that's not been hit as bad as others - we've yet to reach over $4 for 87 octane, but I'm not holding my breath that it won't happen in the next couple weeks. I wonder, when's it going to end and why is this happening in the first place? Are there no more controls? Well it p...

Creating the Godcomplex: Purification by Fire

http://creatingthegodcomplex.blogspot.com/2008/05/purification-by-fire.html

Tuesday, May 20, 2008. This is the end, my beautiful friend, the end. The coats burned nicely, soaked with lighter fluid, and a large plume of foul smelling, blackish smoke arose as I exorcised the drug-resistant demons from within. Thanks for the memories, short white coats, I hate you still. May 20, 2008 2:40 PM. I'm so happy and excited for you! May 20, 2008 8:08 PM. I had thought about doing the same thing, but eventually decided to pick up a few extra $ selling mine. May 21, 2008 4:19 PM. Brief but ...

Creating the Godcomplex: More Truth Than Not

http://creatingthegodcomplex.blogspot.com/2008/05/more-truth-than-not.html

Sunday, May 11, 2008. More Truth Than Not. I read this article. When a couple blogs posted about its topic. Some were naysayers, stating that it painted a bleaker future than really necessary, others were more open to the advice. I noticed that many of the younger bloggers identified with the article than the "dinos" who, of course, viewed this with a grumpy. And went back to their job of trying to keep their investment portfolios from completely going under. Oh, and happy mother's day. Take this as medi...

Creating the Godcomplex: Graduation

http://creatingthegodcomplex.blogspot.com/2008/05/graduation.html

Monday, May 19, 2008. My parents took tons of pictures and many of the classmates and friends were in the backrooms snapping away while we readied ourselves. It was sad that so many of us had been through so much, and now we're heading off into different cities, different specialties, and different lives. I hope to keep in touch with some, but I'm not optimistic. Thanks for sharing your info. I really appreciate your efforts and. I am waiting for your next post thank you once again. Bostonian in NY: September 2009

http://bostonianinny.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Fourth year of medical school is supposed to be the promised land after years of slogging through the pre-reqs, the pre-clinicals and the core clinical rotations. My EM rotations over the summer were PHENOMENAL. And I will share my stories. When they're not subject to search and seizure by the programs that I've applied to.not that I'm paranoid much. However, Geri put the brakes on the momentum of the year, subsequently derailed by. I stuck out the rest of Geri without very much. Anyway, I'll continue my...

July 1st.the worst day to be a patient in the United States. One year from today, I'm going to be licensed to kill. Reminders of that were everywhere:. 1) ERAS went active today. 2) My friends who are interns all had Facebook statuses with something like "I hope I don't kill anyone today.". 3) There were a couple blog posts about it.like here. After suffering through HOURSSSSSSSSSS of GME orientation and VA orientation over the past two days, jumping through the flaming rings of paperwork/med school/repetitive PPD tests I have some schwag that says Dr. Bostonian, MD and a matching prescription pad. Resident Anesthesiologist Guy (RAG). Good luck on your intern year. I remember it still - starting in the ED, July 1, scared outta my mind. I still pucker a bit when I think about it. Brief update and transitions. So where has this former blogging addict with an increasingly jaded streak disappear to for the past few months? 2 words: 4th year. I finally hit the sweet spot between matching and graduation where nothing mattered but enjoying the last few weeks of having absolutely no responsibilities. An epic 3 week trip to Utah for credit learning about wilderness medicine with awful views like this (Wasatch range):. And this (Desolation Canyon). As for the fate of this blog.who kno...

My buddy the heroin addict. We're standing on rounds and the resident presents the following patient that was admitted to our team over-night:. This is a good case, why don't you cover him Bostonian? I hate those words. "this is a good case". Usually means that the patient will have a mildly interesting work-up but is such a pain in the ass that the residents didn't want to deal with him. So this was pretty serious huh? I could have died from this, right? Hey, how old are you man? I'm glad ,. My school i...

Okit's been a month since the last post. Bad blogger.I know. And it's not for lack of things to write about, but for lack of any sort of desire to write them and a nasty case of acute "oh crap I'm going to be a doctor soon"itis. What you've missed while I was away:. Open your envelope.feeling the anticipation build, the hours of reading and studying and not sleeping and being made to do stupid things by obnoxious people. Breathe.open eyes and feel the weight of the past four years. Then there was the matt...

47 f-ing RBCs and other fun. So I got to do my first LP in the department the other day.heavily supervised by one of the more intimidating docs. He was actually quite the patient individual while teaching one on one. He did a great job of teaching in a friendly manner and not making the patient flip the fuck out because I'm doing it for the first time. The LP goes smoothly, and I'm in the spinal canal on my first stick get the opening pressure and everything looks great.I'm thinking CHAMPAGNE TAP! Im cur...
