I see clients for one hour, usually on a weekly basis. I work from home in Combe Down, Bath. At the first session I agree a therapeutic contract with a client which includes the following:-. Initial number of sessions. Reviews to discuss progress. Leaving contract (for ongoing therapy). All the above reflect standard practice which is intended to support the therapeutic process. My aim is to guide and accompany clients into and through the varieties of their self expression. For some people, feelings relating to past significant events may be imprisoned inside, frozen in time. Using metaphor and imagery can help to unlock feelings and experiences, lessening the impact that they can have on their present lives. The creative experiment, if it works well, helps the person leap forward into new expression or at least, it pushes the person into. All Text and Images Sue Dawkins 2007.

About Creative Arts Psychotherapy. The process of psychotherapy and counselling. The role of the therapist has grown as the traditional ways of finding support and self validation have shifted. These are intended to offer insights into how working in this way can benefit clients. This girl felt quite anxious and insecure. Her father had left the family home when she was very young and saw the girl rarely and she needed more attention from both her parents. During the course of therapy her behaviour in the classroom began to change as did her interactions with other pupils. She became less aggressive and was increasingly able to join in with the other children. Violet Oaklander, Hidden Treasure.

For Whom Is It Suitable? May be fed up / getting nowhere with talking only therapies. Have very traumatic issues that they can't / don't want to talk about. Have preverbal trauma ie before the age of two to two and a half years old. New to therapy but feel more drawn to using imagery and creative media. Talking / asking questions doesn't work, more creative ways are needed to help them open up. Make sense of their world through play. Don't want / know how to sit and talk about their issues.
