Monday, 29 December 2014. An Indian Ocean Christmas for Benji. Wasini is a tiny pinprick of an island off the southern coast of Kenya, not far from the Tanzanian border. Run your finger along a map of the area and you'd easily miss it. Rising from coral and mangrove swamps, this Muslim island has two villages, several mosques and madrasa's, no cars or roads, no electricity or running water and Swahili ruins that crumble gently down into the Indian Ocean. A view of Wasini Village from the coral gardens.

Saturday, 31 May 2014. Unpronounceable campsites, dust and dragon slaying. Benji had so much fun yesterday morning with our neighbour Mojo and school friend Warimu, making dens and reading books. Perhaps this made up for the disappointment of not bringing himself to make it to Christian's house on friday. Dry and dusty.' Hmmm.doesn't sound hugely promising. The only review on trip advisor strongly recommends that you visit the site only. See you the other dusty side of Olorgasailie :). Anyway, today's bl...

Saturday, 26 July 2014. Birthdays and beautiful, big houses. Great excitement this morning as Daddy was back when Benji woke up and he got to open up his birthday present - a brand new bike (Yep, it'll be interesting getting that one back to Kenya). Godmother Jess came to help Benji celebrate with a day out at the (heaving) Costwolds Country Park and beach then cake back home. Lavender and dragonflies - pure English summer. Our pad for a fortnight with Andy outside.slightly happy to be here. Were clearly...

Saying goodbye to a little English girl in Kenya. A friend was round yesterday who made a surprise comment, which in turn surprised me. And that comment was: 'You know, I like your house - it's pretty messy.' Yes, I said. I have three children. Surely your house is also messy? To see some of Sam's video's and click here. Monday, 30 June 2014. Excitement, rural lunches and goodbyes. England is so close I can almost taste it:. The peas, green and round and sweet. The cheese, abundant and ubiquitous. Trails to walk, bathtubs to spend two hours in, roads to be driven along without being swallowed by potholes, buses to jump on without fearing for my life. Roundabouts where drivers actually give way, sausages to sink my teeth into. Strawberries raspberries loganberries and very nearly blackberries. Aaaaaaah. Cannot wait. Going...

Monday, 29 September 2014. What's the time Mr Lion? Are there any other parents out there who don't have much in-between, calm time amongst their children? A non wild dogs day for Benji and his big sisters. Fien and her family's wooden cabin. Saturday, 27 September 2014. A lazy day after. Stuck in the mud at KCB. Before the guests arrived for the party last night, Tamzin in England organised a four way skype chat which was so lovely. Thank you Tam! From left to right: Louisa, Tamsin and Tamzin. PLEASE bu...

Friday, 31 October 2014. I happened to read on a Nairobi ex-pat facebook marketplace group the other day that somebody was looking for an orange pumpkin to carve for halloween and did anybody know where they could get one? One of the responses: If you find an orange pumpkin in Nairobi I will eat my shorts. Ah. Ok. Saved me a search then. We toyed with the idea of various other fruits and vegetables (melon? A little witch outside our house. Crudites with blood hummus, anyone? Lots of kids asked. Well,...

Wednesday, 1 April 2015. Goodbye to the Benji Blog. THE MAGIC OF MAYA. THE LOVE AND LIGHT OF LILY. Lily in Kenya at the start of her blog. THE BRAVERY OF BENJAMIN. So, little Benj. My Dad, your Grandpa Harry, always used to tell me I had chutzpah. This is a Yiddish word meaning guts. Your grandpa definitely had this in bucketfuls and this is what I wish for you Benjamin: curiosity, self-belief, openness, humour, the ability to use your head, heart and hands with equal skill and a whole lot of chutzpah.

View my complete profile. Want Lily's adventures to go direct to your email? Looking for a gift? Buy a beautiful Barefoot book. Thursday, 27 February 2014. Sick days and wacky Steiner gnomes. My car has been returned but it is not happy (I think my car needs a name as it certainly has a character. Any ideas? If you break down, I will come and rescue you and we'll have a few beers.' Reassuring? Lily's beautiful weaving she made at school then stitched on to a cushion cover - she's very proud of it. You kn...
