Halcyon Days: November 2010
http://halcydays.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Catching Up, Part 1. Oh, my poor little blog, neglected these past few weeks in the flurry of holiday preparations, in addition to the usual obligations – work, family, guitar lessons, cat cuddling. There has been sewing and knitting and even a couple of finished projects, which I need to get posted soon. These include a wonky but warm pair of mittens and a scarf that had long malingered in the UFO pile. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been feeling quite content lately. I've writte...

Halcyon Days: April 2011

Tuesday, April 26, 2011. A Good Car (Taking Inventory). Today's story is about the end of one of the best relationships I've ever had. The fact that this relationship involved an inanimate object that doesn't speak is probably telling, but still: it was a good relationship for me nonetheless. The wreck that is the car, or the wreck that was my life, take your pick. It was a tinge morbid, too, because it occurred to me that our stuff is what is left of us, and someday someone (my sister? Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Random Wednesday Catch Up. Now that the apocalypse has been postponed (and I finally got over my terrible cold) I can get back to blogging. 1) First, a few reading recommendations: I accidentally read Ree Drummond’s (aka The Pioneer Woman. 2) On the quilting front: Material Obsession 2. 3) Colin Woodard’s blog. Remains one of my favorites. This weekend: sheep and wool and yarn. Wednesday, May 11, 2011. The Great Cough Across Ireland. After getting lost on the Trinity College camp...

Halcyon Days: March 2011
http://halcydays.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 24, 2011. As I get ready for my trip to Ireland in early May, I've decided to embark upon a crash course in contemporary Irish literature. (Because that's just what I need, another reason to buy books. And clearly, my idea of fun is just whacked.). By Anne Enright, and the other is a collection of short stories called " Cheating At Canasta. By William Trevor (which includes an essay of his published in the New Yorker a few years ago, which you can read here. If you are so inclined). I dar...
