I used to complain that my work was constantly interrupted until I realized that my interruptions were my work. This quote, attributed to Henri Nouwen describes a truth I’d be well advised to incorporate into my personal worldview. Each of these shifts requires me to develop a sense of otherness ; it must cease to be about me and my needs and focus on how I can be of service, how I can reach out. But it’s messy. It wrecks my schedules, my plans, my outcome-focused goals. Interruptions come in many guises.
