Het kwam erop neer dat we samen met tientallen yachties bijna een maand moesten wachten, surplacen, klussen doen, "gastronomisch" kokerellen, movies kijken, kilo's chocolade en chips en muffins vreten, terwijl de temperatuur zo gevoelig is gezakt dat we bijna naar de boot kunnen schaatsen. En al die miserie voor een zeer pover weersvenster, zonder garanties. Ik ga je bigtime missen, meid, de komende maanden! Jan the German, the chocolate captain, and Canada Brenton.

Sunday, November 15, 2009. Oversteek Tonga - Nieuw Zeeeeeland! Het was middag toen Jan en ik Nuku Alofa verlieten met volle tanks, massale hoeveelheden vers voedsel, voorbereid op alles (? Een gunstig weersvenster is voorspeld, we zien t' zitten! Het is pas na acht dagen, op 300 NM van de Nieuw Zeelandse kust net na zonsondergang dat we in een front terecht komen met, guess what, een depressie! Tot in m'n botten! Daarenboven kregen we een verwelkoming van een bultrug walvis met haar kalf op nog geen 20 meter van onze boeg. We waren al snel onze miserie vergeten.
