Travelling to HMP Lewes. By car: From London take A23, M23, A27 then join A275, the prison is on the left. From Brighton take A27 then A277. Parking: Reserved parking available for youth groups attending KeepOut. By bus: No 28 or 29 from Brighton to Lewes drops off outside HMP Lewes. By train: Trains from London Victoria take 1 hour 5mins. Trains from Brighton take 15 mins and from Eastbourne it takes 25 mins. Lewes train station is a 5 min taxi ride / 25 min walk from HMP Lewes. On the day you are attending an event please follow this procedure:. All adults must bring photo ID – a passport or photo driving licence is essential to gain admittance to the prison. Everyone entering the prison will be searched. Any member of the group carrying prohibited items (User Information Pack Annex E) will be refused entry. Twenty years later it was again converted, this time as a military prison, and in 1898, when it was returned to the Prison Commissioners, the buildings were enlarged and improved and made the trial and remand prison for the whole of the London area.
