Last Friday, I was in a meeting in my boss’s office when I got a call from my daughter Hannah. I have a great boss and didn’t hesitate to ask if I could take the call to make sure it wasn’t an emergency since she’s off at college. Not an emergency? But we’re all problem solvers by nature, and so much better at solving other people’s problems, right? Have you pushed her too hard?

This time, I used my mom’s recipe for Seven Minute Frosting, but I like the process and texture of Italian Meringue better. I think it’s time to say goodbye to the old stand by. This is not a cake for kids unless you add the Kahlua to the boiling sugar syrup to cook out the alcohol. I have heard a little remains even then, but it’s a minuscule amount. 1 cup unsalted butter, softened.
