文化資源学とは、世界各国 各地域の文化を、 文化遺産 、 文化財 という言葉についてまわる価値評価から解き放ち、新たな価値を創造するための 文化資源 ととらえ直すことで、人類文化の総合的 多角的な研究と保護 活用法の開発を目指す、新しい学問分野である。 文化資源学 という新設学問領域が担うのはまさに以上のような問題であり、 多文化共生 をさらに一歩進めた 多文化共用 という将来的課題である。 たとえば、文化資源学は、経済開発やグローバリゼーションの進展で消滅の危機に瀕している各国 各地の 文化資源 の保護 継承 活用という課題に学問の立場から真剣に向き合うが、研究が進展することで、偏狭なナショナリズムの発生や文化資源をめぐる経済的利益の収奪等の諸問題の解決に貢献するであろう。
