I will first give you some general advice about working with this kind of lenses, and in the end I'll talk about this particular photo. Working with large-aperture lenses is a nice experience when you begin the long photographic journey. The shallow depth of field (DoF) gives you an artistic tool that is not achievable otherwise. Hallway i walk through to get to my office every day. Tue, 08 Oct 2013 21:27:02 GMT. The first thing I noticed: it feels like the photo is tilted to the right. I would try to straighten it. My second thought: I like how my sight is drawn to the centre of the picture. It helps that there is only one source of light in the centre, and it goes darker closer to the edges, which aligns with the perspective. But then, what is there to see in the central area? Was there an idea behind it?

Photo made on camera Canon 7d. It was made accidentally. I wanted to fix composition, but was afraid to mess up. I made photo at night and it was difficult, photo was saved by the light in contrejour. Portrait was in the character and was made a kind of mystery. The Crooked Horizon
Saturday, January 24, 2009. Surprising dawn session at the harbor. Pulled up to the harbor at 6:30am expecting to see some stormy conditions after yesterday's rain. Instead I paddled out into clean, up-to head-high fairly hollow waves with only a few people out. Stoked! Here's the post-sesh pic. I surfed North side, but South side had a great right peeling off the jetty. Plenty of hollow rights coming through closer to the North jetty. Spent most of my session right here. No reason to go anywhere else.

Monday, July 14, 2014. From one vacation to another. I've been so bad about blogging for so long that I have a big backlog of photos that could be blog-worthy. Here are a couple bighorn sheep photos from last summer's vacation to the Black Hills and Badlands in South Dakota. Western South Dakota is one of my favorite places in the world.
