The Crookes Corner: Sunday In The Shade

http://www.crookescorner.blogspot.com/2009/06/sunday-in-shade.html

A collection of rants from a Canadian student in The Gambia. Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Sunday In The Shade. It seemed like a very effective way of settling disputes. The people involved in the conflict feel obligated to obey the ruling because the ruling is given by the community itself. If they do not, everyone in the community will see that they are not cooperating and it will not be good for them. I also had my first REAL Gambian meal. I have no idea what it was called, maybe benachin?

The Crookes Corner: Bulok Revisited

http://www.crookescorner.blogspot.com/2009/07/bulok-revisited.html

A collection of rants from a Canadian student in The Gambia. Sunday, July 12, 2009. Jordan and I headed up to Bulok yesterday for the second time to see the changes. Kebba Manka, our supervisor took us on the trip. They had also nearly finished rebuilding the road that had been eroded so badly. As you can see there is quite a change in scenery. The Crookes Corner: Let The Rains Begin

http://www.crookescorner.blogspot.com/2009/06/let-rains-begin.html

A collection of rants from a Canadian student in The Gambia. Monday, June 15, 2009. Let The Rains Begin. Last night and for most of this morning it rained! This marks the beginning of the rainy season here. It actually felt a little cooler around here, especially while it was still raining. There were mixed feelings amongst as about the rain. I personally love it (for now). As Hilary Duff would say, "Let the Rain Fall Down". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Lindsay's Gambian and Malawian Summer. Saturday, June 20, 2009. 14th June - 21st June. This week I returned to work with PIWAMP on my own. The more I am spending time at PIWAMP with Keba, Mr. Bulago and others, the more I realize how much I will miss it! On Tuesday, 15th June we went back to Bondal Joli to follow up on the road construction. This village is fortunate to have excellent gravel right next to the road. Gravel pit in Bondal Joli]. http://lindsayingambiaandmalawi.blogspot.com/2009/07/meats-and-treats.html

Lindsay's Gambian and Malawian Summer. Sunday, July 12, 2009. I have not introduced the local Malawian cuisine yet! Nsima (aka sadza for us Zimbabweans) or rice is usually served with meat and veggies for the lunch/supper meal. If you are really lucky you can snack on the decadent world famous, Mais sur la spear! Also known as Mice on a Stick! This popular treat is sold on the roadsides in cities and towns along the main highways of the country. Posted by L.C. July 16, 2009 at 1:03 AM. 26 May - 6 June.

http://lindsayingambiaandmalawi.blogspot.com/2009/06/reflections-on-smiling-coast.html

Lindsay's Gambian and Malawian Summer. Saturday, June 27, 2009. Reflections on the Smiling Coast. Things I have realized during my time in The Gambia. 1 Proper greetings are of great importance. You shake hands, ask "How was the morning (or other)? Was it with Peace? 2 Everything is done with a peace of mind. 3 Giving your full names are important as there are very common first and last names. 5 Inquisitive culture: wants to know your name, where you are from, where you live, what you do. Tasty if you ar...

Lindsay's Gambian and Malawian Summer. Thursday, June 11, 2009. Only two weeks left in the West. 8th June - 12th June. I have thoroughly enjoyed the people, the culture, the weather, well.maybe not all. The food, but certainly, I have immensely enjoyed the scenery! The Gambia is referred to as 'the smiling coast' and you can see this everywhere you go. People are friendly and helpful, and often go out of their way to make you feel welcome! Lindsay's Gambian and Malawian Summer. Friday, July 31, 2009. Hunger, disease and envy.the three worst enemies of Malawi. 26th - 31st July. This week I came down to Blantyre to work with the NGO's Hygiene Village and Water for People. Hygiene Village is an extremely small organization with a big heart! The work they do with so few resources and little funds is incredible! Talk about effective management! There are two main types of latrines which they promote: Skyloo and VIP latrines.
