Something Witty This Way Comes... (I Hope): August 2008
http://klystrona.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Something Witty This Way Comes. (I Hope). Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Yarnity, yarn, yarn. I think it takes a very cold, calloused person with a frigid soul to not appreciate, if not love. Yarn Who can resist the come-hither squishiness of a ball of yarn? Who can avoid grabbing, with child-like delight, the balls of wool and mohair? Even the synthetics like acrylic have a luscious appeal. And there is a purely magical aura to those wild yarns made with bits of silk, soy, and bamboo. Bamboo.

The Grouchy Cineaste: 31 Frights #30: WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE [1994]
http://grouchycineaste.blogspot.com/2010/10/31-frights-30-wes-cravens-new-nightmare.html
Picking apart the Picture Show. Saturday, October 30, 2010. 31 Frights #30: WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE [1994]. Wes Craven’s finest hour as a filmmaker to date. Of all the 1980s horror franchises, the NIGHTMARE series was easily the highest on the quality totem, and Craven’s inventive metafictional deconstruction of his own creation never got the credit it deserved, especially when his next film, the thematically similar SCREAM, was a huge hit. Something Witty This Way Comes... (I Hope): February 2007
http://klystrona.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Something Witty This Way Comes. (I Hope). Monday, February 26, 2007. One day, this little mermaid grew up and knew there was more in the world she needed to see. She ran off to the big city, then, years later, to the Smokey Mountains. But she always longed for the salty waters of her past. Her hair grew dark, and her eyes turned more grey than green, but inside she still felt the embrace of the sea. Friday, February 23, 2007. The List" by Tara Ison - A Review. And should these little reasons be enough?

The Grouchy Cineaste: 31 Frights #31: TRICK ‘R TREAT [2009]
http://grouchycineaste.blogspot.com/2010/10/31-frights-31-trick-r-treat-2009.html
Picking apart the Picture Show. Sunday, October 31, 2010. 31 Frights #31: TRICK ‘R TREAT [2009]. And we end with Michael Dougherty’s criminally overlooked horror anthology, for my money one of the best Halloweentime viewing choices you could ever make. A stylishly visualized quartet of cleverly interlocked tales, the film nails the macabre, fanciful spirit of the holiday without defaulting to a cavalcade of brutality. Happy Halloween! The Grouchy Cineaste: 31 Frights #27: PEEPING TOM [1960]
http://grouchycineaste.blogspot.com/2010/10/31-frights-27-peeping-tom-1960.html
Picking apart the Picture Show. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. 31 Frights #27: PEEPING TOM [1960]. British director Michael Powell was one of the most celebrated filmmakers of his time, responsible for classics including BLACK NARCISSUS and THE RED SHOES; after this film came out, his career never recovered from the firestorm of controversy over its “sick” and “filthy” content. 50 years later, it’s lost none of its power to divide and disturb. The Grouchy Cineaste: 31 Frights #23: RACE WITH THE DEVIL [1974]
http://grouchycineaste.blogspot.com/2010/10/31-frights-23-race-with-devil-1974.html
Picking apart the Picture Show. Saturday, October 23, 2010. 31 Frights #23: RACE WITH THE DEVIL [1974]. A perfect example of a drive-in classic if there ever was one, this enjoyably dumb thriller spends a solid hour making the case that everyone in Texas is a Satanist before revving up with some groovy vehicular carnage (why else would you cast Peter Fonda? And a classic 70s-style joybuzzer ending. Best enjoyed with a six-pack on a Saturday night – like this one. Would you like to know more?
