The Chaple

A Sunday school was opened and Mr. Geary was the representative on the Towcester and District Sunday Scholl Union. It continued as an important part of village life until the 1950s. The path was a crucial part of village life in Crowfield. Besides the normal trade traffic of village life, over the centuries since the establishment of the church, the path was the route all coffins had to take for burials! It is beleived the chapel closed late 30s. Poem by Joseph Timms.

At this time the Earls of Ellesmere owned the land around Crowfield, Staplegate and Whistley. Censuses were taken every 10 years from 1801. The census of 1851 showed a remarkable thriving population in Crowfield with 37 houses and a total population of 184. Two large families were noted the Woottons and Wrightons. The 20th Century came slowly to Crowfield, and survived a dramatic decrease in housing stock and population in the middle of the century to be revived as a thriving and diverse settlement. A series of redevelopments transformed the population from agricultural and craft based to more middle class based by the turn of the millennium.
