Newer posts →. Harvest and Market, 5/16-5/28. May 28, 2011. This year I have been meaning to keep better track of my harvests so I have a better sense of what my garden produces. A couple of weeks ago, I did start weighing and measuring and recording those counts in my garden journal, but I have yet to post. Since that’s what this blog is for, here’s the rough count for the last two weeks:. 10 oz ‘Sparkler’ radishes (with greens). 2 small bunches of arugula. Bunch of chive flowers. And we picked up our s...

How to Roast Dandelions →. Raquo; Year End Reviews. Raquo; 2012 in Review. April 15, 2013. In retrospect, I should have paid more attention to my sources on this vegetable and dug up only a few tubers as needed. Any remaining tubers would come up the next year and I wouldn’t have had to worry about how/where to store the remaining tubers. Oh yeah, we dug up a large overgrown bush in the front bed, I forgot to mention that. I was never fond of the location, since it blocked off a nice view of the fron...
In Defense of the Lowly Dandelion | Crow in Garden

New Seeds for 2011. What’s going on in the garden? Raquo; In Defense of the Lowly Dandelion. In Defense of the Lowly Dandelion. April 17, 2011. Everyone knows that the lowly dandelion is the worst “weed” of all, so of course it is the one most vigilantly combated. An overgrown dandelion can really ruin the look of a flowerbed, and once it’s gone to seed you’re guaranteed another batch to dig up in the summer. Thus the cycle never ends. 8220;Every year,” said Grandfather. “They run amuck; ...Another thing...
Onions! | Crow in Garden

Kale and Potato Hash. 2011 in Review →. August 1, 2011. Finally, after weeks of waiting, drying, and curing, I have a firm total of onion’s harvested. So I purchased a set of ‘Stuttgarter’ onions from Pinetree Garden Seeds. I think that 5lb of this variety of onion will last 2-3 months, but it’s hard to say. If I decide to make a big batch of French onion soup, they will certainly not last that long. We do get a reliable supply of onions from our CSA, which helps. This entry was posted in harvest. Crowing Coq Cookbook Club
Crowing Coq Cookbook Club. Wednesday, June 1, 2016. As they say in Portugal. A beautiful country filled with ancient architecture that sing with thousands of years of history as we walked along the cobbled streets. We were on a river cruise with a group from the Mount Eden Vineyard. A small group of us also visited Salamanca, Spain and missed a short cruise down the river and a 115 ft lock. Salamanca was worth the 4.5 hr bus ride and an absolutely beautiful university city. Because I have so many restaur...
