Ahead, the river turned into a narrow, man-made cut, called the Rockpile. It’s very narrow, with huge rocks close to the channel. Marie as the bow of the Laker Algoma Mariner loomed large through our salon doorway. She was headed for the MacArthur Lock. One of the most elegant lockkeepers cottages we have ever seen is right next to this lock. Cruising on M/V Monarch. Monday, September 28, 2009. September 25, 2009 - White Lake, Michigan. As we departed Ludington, we noticed the reservoir just south of the entrance. It appears as an unnatural, flat-top hill. When there is excess power in the local grid, the power company uses it to pump this huge reservoir full of water.
