Mostly vegetarian fare for food-loving folks. Icky sticky (and thanks). Posted by frances under dessert. And if you may be starting to think that our house seems to have been a house of desserts of late, you are right. On that note I would like to say my warm thanks for supporting my entry. A warming dish of winter berries) to May’s No Crouton’s Required event. I’m chuffed to now sport the winner’s badge for the month! Who apart from organising the event also maintain inspiring food blogs themselves.

Mostly vegetarian fare for food-loving folks. In the name of science. Posted by frances under soup. In case you’re wondering, a vague nerdy interest in the scientific side of things (informed, unfortunately, by nothing beyond high school classes! Needless to say, that was fun, and happily my body did not protest (as much). So have a go with some pea soup for now and cross your fingers for me! Split pea and vegetable soup. 1 large leek, white part only, finely sliced. 2 large garlic cloves, roughly chopped.

Mostly vegetarian fare for food-loving folks. Posted by frances under baking. Week 1 Elimination | Crunchy Green Things

https://crunchygreenthings.wordpress.com/2009/07/11/week-1-elimination

Mostly vegetarian fare for food-loving folks. Posted by frances under beans. My dietician had to laugh when at this point of the session I confessed that our household eats mostly vegetarian! Also out are most fruits (except pear and banana), cheeses (except fresh ones like ricotta or cottage cheese), and, most tragically, chocolate. Lucky this diet thing is just for three weeks, voluntary and for a good cause! 8211; caramelised tofu with crispy brussels sprouts (from 101 cookbooks). In a frying pan, mel...

Spatulas at Dawn: May 2010

http://spatulasatdawn.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 25 May 2010. I've made two different spice cakes recently. The first was the Black Pepper Spice cake (see recipe below) from my favourite. I've made this before and knew the intended recipient was a fan of black pepper so made it again. I often feel like it's a bit of a cop-out using a recipe I've tried before when baking; there are so many recipes out there to try, why resort to something you've made before? I also made this. Spiced Brown Sugar Carrot Loaf. Black Pepper and Spice Cake. For the ...

Spatulas at Dawn: A Summery Ginger Cake

http://spatulasatdawn.blogspot.com/2010/06/summery-ginger-cake.html

Saturday, 26 June 2010. A Summery Ginger Cake. The recent warm weather, as glorious and much needed as it is, doesn't lend itself to baking. Even recently at dawn, whilst it may still be cool, the thought of cranking up the oven and creaming butter and sugar has not been appealing (I make sound like I stand over the ingredients with a wooden spoon laboriously mixing by hand - no way, not whan I have. A thing of beauty. But just hadn't got round to it yet). I had fresh ginger in the fridge, from my re...

Spatulas at Dawn: Many Muffins

Tuesday, 8 June 2010. For a basic, and adaptable, muffin recipe I found. This from Joy of Baking. Adapted from Dorie Greenspan's Carrot Spice Muffin Recipe. 2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda. 1/2 tsp mixed spice. 120g light muscavado sugar (or light brown). 1 1/3 cup oil. 1 1/2 cups buttermilk. 2 cups grated courgettes. Zest of a large orange. Grease or line muffin tins. Mix flours, spices, bicarb and baking powder in a large bowl. Add sugars, mixing so there are no lumps. I like my rhubar...

Spatulas at Dawn: An Abundance of Bundts

http://spatulasatdawn.blogspot.com/2010/05/abundance-of-bundts.html

Wednesday, 12 May 2010. An Abundance of Bundts. How I love my Bundt tins. Have I convinced you yet to go out and invest in one? If not, then just remember that most Bundt recipes can be divided into two 9x5 loaf tins. Helping you to make your Sunday Roast. My recent obsession has been baking with bananas. I've discovered a couple of local shops that sell perfectly ripened bananas reduced in price as they're. Adapted from Dorie Greenspan's recipe in 'Baking From My Home to Yours). Squeeze of lemon juice.

Nourish Me: A fragrant bowl of wild rice

http://nourish-me.blogspot.com/2008/08/fragrant-bowl-of-wild-rice.html

A sometimes misguided, but (hopefully) always delicious journey into healthful, natural food. Tuesday, August 12, 2008. A fragrant bowl of wild rice. Is Deborah Madison’s typically spare description of this soup and she is, typically, spot on. Clean, as a descriptor, may not seal the deal on recipes ordinarily, but by this stage of winter I find myself longing for something lighter. There’s been a lot of stodge eaten in these parts of late. So this beautiful and yes, clean. Some streamlining from experie...

Crunchy Green Health Nut

Crunchy Green Health Nut. This is a blog about my adventures in living crunchy and green. Wednesday, February 28, 2018. These bars are protein energy bars. On the box it says they're "high-dh hydrolysed whey protein in a creme filled wafer bar". Think sugar wafers but without the boatload of sugar. They are generously sized at 1.4 oz per bar and are filling. The peanut butter creme is our favorite. It has 10g carbs and 13g protein. Salted Caramel is our second favorite. It has 9g carbs and 13g protein.

Crunchy Green Mom

Friday, October 13, 2017. There are times when the weather in Colorado is amazing and my husband and his son get up bright and early, take the boat to the reservoir and spend all day floating around, searching for fish. I call it searching because they aren't very good at it, but they do LOVE to do it. Christmas presents for fishermen is hard, they usually buy what they want and for a woman that doesn't fish, I have no idea what to get them. Until I found this. My Readers Get $10.00 Off Your First My...

How to reduce your electric bill to practically nothing. If you want to save electricity too, here are some of my electricity saving tips:. Change your incandescent lightbulbs to CFLs. Compact fluorescent lightbulbs (which now come in a soft yellow color that's very similar to incandescents) generally use about 20% of the electricity used to power a regular incandescent lightbulb. Even if you only change the lightbulbs that you use most often, you'll still save electricity. A little more crunch. Green Pr...
