Back to Craislist...: 4nannys
http://4nannys.livejournal.com/148809.html
Well, today I got to work (I care for a nearly seven-year-old boy, I'll call him "W") and got a bit of a surprise. The mother said that she and the father wanted to "have a talk" with me. Immediately, I got nervous. A "talk" is usually never a good thing. So they sat me down in the living room and we talked. And they fired me. My side of it is: I go outside with W every. As for the discipline and controlling thing, they admitted to me that even they have trouble making him obey. I've witnessed it! Of cou...

Wardrobe?: 4nannys
http://4nannys.livejournal.com/151078.html
I just got a permanent nanny gig (I've had a few other positions but they were usually just for a summer) and it got me thinking- what do you normally wear to work? This summer I pretty much lived in ribbed tanks (layered so they weren't revealing) and black cotton capris or pants. I just find jeans to be uncomfortable when you spend most of your time on the floor, ya know? Post a new comment. Anonymous comments are disabled in this journal. We will log you in after post. Traveling question: 4nannys
http://4nannys.livejournal.com/147268.html
Has anyone here ever gone on a trip with the family they work for? I am going to next weekend, most likely, and am unsure about how to know what to charge for this. I usually make $13/hour for one child (age 4) and might be watching a couple more for brief periods of time during the trip. How do you decide what to charge in this situation? And should I expect my meals with them to be paid for by them, or do I pay for my own meals? Post a new comment. Anonymous comments are disabled in this journal.

The "Don't Play Doctor" talk: 4nannys
http://4nannys.livejournal.com/150764.html
The "Don't Play Doctor" talk. I nanny share for two different families, and last week the two older kids (4 yo boy and 5 yo girl) played doctor and peed on the carpet together while I was changing the baby's diaper in the other room. Now I need to talk to them about what's okay/not okay as far as them being out of my sight and that they need to keep their clothes on. Any ideas on how to frame it in as positive and easily understandable a way as possible? Post a new comment. We will log you in after post.

Boston-area nannies: 4nannys
http://4nannys.livejournal.com/150390.html
I will be starting a new, short-term nanny gig at the end of November. The family is Australian and since they'll be here such a short time before I start nannying, they won't have any friends or kids to play with or anything. I was wondering if there were any Boston-area nannies on this board that would be interested in possibly getting together and having playdates? I am currently a nanny now for a family in Wellesley, which is why I don't know anything that's going on in Boston proper.).

Speech Delay?: 4nannys
http://4nannys.livejournal.com/148668.html
Does anyone have experience working with a child who may be speech delayed? I take care of a 19 month old, Thursdays only, in addition to my regular charge, and I'm starting to wonder about the amount that he talks. I looked it up on Babycenter, and the article says,. Some signs to look out for:. 13 to 18 months. 19 to 24 months. He'll run over to the door and pat it). Should I be concerned? And if so, should I bring it up with the parents? Post a new comment. Hey guys. I was wondering, does anyone else work in a situation where the mother is sometimes home? I don't know about you all, but I get nervous/anxious when the mom is home. She does spend most of her time in the home office, working, but I don't know.I feel weird just the same. It looks like she'll be spending a lot more time at home now, as well, since her office is being remodeled. She said it won't be done until June! Post a new comment. So, how do you find your positions? My sister in law has decided she wants to be a nanny, and since my position fell in my lap I don't really know what are good leads when it comes to finding a family in your area. I don't think she'd be against becoming an au pair either, so advice on that would be good to pass on too. Post a new comment. Anonymous comments are disabled in this journal.
