Feel it, it is here! | The Crystal Calligrapher
https://crystalwarren.wordpress.com/2011/06/30/feel-it-it-is-here
A blog about books, writing and related topics. Feel it, it is here! June 30, 2011. Posted by Crystal Warren in festival. The calm before the storm. Now that I finally have a phone that takes decent photographs, and have figured out how to get the photographs off the phone, I thought it might be fun to keep a sort of festival photo diary, with at least one photo from every day. Waiting waiting for the bus. Had some play lost its prop? 1 davidseven - July 4, 2011. And so the madness begins. You are commen...
Mindful Writing Challenge 2013 | The Crystal Calligrapher

A blog about books, writing and related topics. Mindful Writing Challenge 2013. January 2, 2013. Posted by Crystal Warren in writing. It is a new year. A time to reflect on the year that has passed and to think about the year ahead. Many of us will make resolutions. Many of us will break those resolutions. But regardless of how well we succeed, setting new goals and thinking about what is important is a useful exercise. No comments yet — be the first. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are commenting u...
Two small stones | The Crystal Calligrapher
https://crystalwarren.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/two-small-stones
A blog about books, writing and related topics. January 2, 2013. Posted by Crystal Warren in poems. 1 The West Coast Wind. It whistles and howls. Prowling around the house. It rattles windows and slams doors. It blows the washing off the line. It blows the holiday-makers off the beach. Clouds race across the sky. Plants cling to their pots. Trees sway, struggling to maintain their dignity. Hands thrown up in disgust and despair. And the sand dances. 2 – Incandescent. I lie in a white room:. Thapelo on Ne...

A blog about books, writing and related topics. Freezing, but feeling festive. July 4, 2011. Posted by Crystal Warren in festival. Grahamstown is cold. Very cold. Which makes going out to shows quite a challenge. It is tempting to stay inside, next to the heater. So far I have managed to drag myself out for all my shows, although scheduled trips to the craft markets and art exhibitions were abandoned. Fortunately all the shows have been worth it. The festival diary so far:. Saturday: Abnormal Loads by Ne...

Another NaNoWriMo! | Moonblue's Bookshelf

Blogging about books, reading and writing. November 2, 2010. Posted by moonblue in NaNoWriMo. It is that time of year again. You know, when your writer friends start to act a bit strange. Or rather, stranger than usual. You soon learn the signs, the stifled yawns, the glazed eyes, the rubbing of cramped fingers, the barely suppressed excitement. Yes, it is NaNoWriMo time again. And join in the fun. No comments yet — be the first. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Writing buddies w...
Is there a man on the moon?* | Moonblue's Bookshelf
https://stillwaters151.wordpress.com/2010/07/20/is-there-a-man-on-the-moon
Blogging about books, reading and writing. Is there a man on the moon? July 20, 2010. Posted by moonblue in Uncategorized. A note on the title of this post for non-South African readers, and most likely, South African readers born after that famous day, the title comes from the song, Man on the Moon, by Ballyhoo. A song which has been stuck in my head all day, thanks to the djs on Algoa FM who played a series of moon related songs this morning. No comments yet — be the first. Enter your comment here.

The Monk on the Hill: In the Absence
http://monkonthehill.blogspot.com/2010/05/in-absence.html
The Monk on the Hill. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. I have had a long computer/blog silence, I realise. But I have been stymied by helplessness and frustration. My psychic energy is being drained, making it difficult for me to write anything of any substance. Cry, the Beloved Country. Things don't seem to be changing from when he wrote that book in the 50s. The "New Democracy" is becoming more of a discouragement. Maybe that same uncertainty is why I can't even be sure God exists as any kind of certainty....
Can you read it? | Moonblue's Bookshelf
https://stillwaters151.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/can-you-read-it
Blogging about books, reading and writing. Can you read it? September 8, 2010. Posted by moonblue in reading. If you can read this post, then you are part of the more privileged part of society. According to a report on the radio this morning, one in five adults is illiterate. That is a scary statistic. Today is International Literacy Day. A day when those of us can read should be grateful. Can you imagine a world without books? 1 davidseven - September 8, 2010. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

My own cooking challenge, to try a new recipe book each month. Crystal does not cook. July 10, 2010. I know, I haven’t posted anything here for a while. There is a reason for that. I haven’t cooked anything for a while. But the best I got with home cooking was to heat up some of the soup I had saved and frozen from previous sessions in the kitchen. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. My own cooking challenge, to try a new recipe book each month. A New Look for a New Year to Cook. January 11, 2011. I have been a very bad blogger. Worse than that, I have been failing horribly at my own challenge, to try out new recipes and write about them. But I have high hopes. Somehow January does that. There must be something in all those new year’s resolutions. Even if I resist making any myself, I find myself feeling the urge to do new things, or to improve on areas of my life. Deja vu I see you.

My own cooking challenge, to try a new recipe book each month. September 8, 2010. To celebrate the 100th hit on my site I was going to try a new chocolate cake recipe. Sadly I found the cupboard a bit bare, with only a few spoons of flour or cocoa. But some sort of celebration seemed called for. And my heart had been set on chocolate. I still haven’t got the timing quite right. The recipe says two minutes but that was a bit too short, leaving it doughy. Three minutes left me with a nice moi...You are com...

My own cooking challenge, to try a new recipe book each month. July 26, 2010. As life starts to return to some sense of normality I am getting back into a routine of cooking on a regular basis. And even trying out a new recipe. My microwave recipe book has several pages of potato recipes. Baked potatoes have been part of my regular routine since I got the microwave, but now it is time to expand my repertoire. It was so good. Definitely something I will make again. Crystal does not cook. Notify me of new ...

A blog about books, writing and related topics. The blog is back! September 6, 2016. After more than three years I slowly return to blogging. Perhaps this time I will be able to sustain it a bit better. Part of my problem was that my email changed and I foolishly forgot to update my details on the blog site. So when I thought about going back online I couldn’t remember my password, and couldn’t get it resent to me. There is a reason I am a writer not a computer fundi. Small stones about small people.
