Another three weeks have passed and with it have come some more significant events in the lives of the soldiers as well as the unit. The outstanding men and women of this unit continue to humble me with their ability to rise to the level of the challenge as well as their tremendously positive attitudes. Camp Udairi, Kuwait The fourth of July usually congers up images of fireworks and barbeques and kids by the pool. And while the Soldiers of 4th Battalion, 123rd Aviation Regiment would have gladly traded their desert uniforms for swimsuits or shorts, they marked Independence Day in a different manner. Wednesday, March 09, 2005. March 9, 2005: Deployment Update. Milestone Day for 4-123rd Avn. Promotions, Re-enlistment, and the 1000 hours flown mark. Camp Udairi, Kuwait The first of the month always seems to be a significant day. Whether because it’s payday or it just marks the passage of another month, the first day of any month is a milestone. But 1 March 2005 had additional significance for some 4-123rd Avn soldiers deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom as well as for the unit as a whole.

We now have 11 weeks under our belt with this deployment and I am continually amazed at how self sufficient and resilient the Army Family is.
