Thoughts for the Journey: Servant Leadership?
http://csumcpastor.blogspot.com/2007/03/servant-leadership.html
Thoughts for the Journey. Sharing God's Grace and Love. Sunday, March 18, 2007. Isaiah talks of the suffering servant leader. It describes him as not being very good looking but as one who takes on himself the sins of the world and gives himself so that the rest of us can have a better life. The passage in Isaiah 52 and 53 is usually reserved for Advent but perhaps it deserves a fresh look since we are so close to Easter. What image does that convey? The first one that comes to my mind is that of victim.

Thoughts for the Journey. Sharing God's Grace and Love. Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Thanks for the Encouragement. I suppose this column and my blogspot are really for me to wax philosophical. I am not sure I am much of a philosopher. Besides, the only one I remember was Socrates and didn’t he drink poison? Not my cup of tea, please. Well, I will try. You have been an encouragement to me and I know that together, we can be a force of encouragement and hope for others this year. Remember, invite a frien...

Thoughts for the Journey. Sharing God's Grace and Love. Tuesday, June 27, 2006. I'd love to talk with you about it, why not come by some Sunday and let's see if we can understand one another. Allen. Tuesday, June 20, 2006. The Longsuffering of Job. I use that title loosely because I don't really want to know what Job encountered in his experience. These past few weeks, I have been dealing with a case of the shingles. (does that make me a roofer? Wednesday, June 14, 2006. Monday, June 05, 2006. That wasn'...
Thoughts for the Journey: Leadership
http://csumcpastor.blogspot.com/2007/02/leadership.html
Thoughts for the Journey. Sharing God's Grace and Love. Monday, February 26, 2007. What does it mean to be a leader? I suppose that first it means the leader is a person who leads others on some journey. That is true, but why would people want to follow a leader except that the leader has or knows something that they do not know. A leader has knowledge and a leader must know the way, or at least convince some folks that he knows the way. But what about the average Christian? Are we leaders in some way?

Our experience on CTCYM Mission Trip. Tuesday, June 27, 2006. THE FACE OF MISSION TRIP. THE FACE OF EXHAUSTION. THE FACE OF FAMILY. Posted by Coweta Living Center at 12:43 PM. Monday, June 26, 2006. Rare shot of a construction coordinator actually working. Later, the team came back and fixed it right. Immediately after taking this picture, Allen was once again thrown out of the girls locker room. After an invigorating swim, the teams are energized for another day of work. Janie is all smiles after learni...

Our experience on CTCYM Mission Trip. Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Some thoughts on packing for Mission Trip. With only 12 days left until we leave, it’s time to start thinking about packing and preparing for the trip. Here are some things to consider:. Packing extra shirts will not make up for not packing enough underwear, and washcloths are not a good substitue for towels (ask Brad). Wearing My Little Pony and Ninja Turtles pajamas will not go unnoticed. Allen: no speedos this year, please. There will be no ...

Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Are you really a Christian? Are you really a Christian? An alleged friend asked me. We were discussing whether or not getting to go to heaven is the primary goal for Christians to live toward. I, of course, was against this idea. Jesus spent a lot more time teaching people how to access and live in the presence of God here and now than about where you go after you die. For those of you who might think I am digging myself deeper into the hole of liberalism or universalism, hear me o...

Sunday, July 16, 2006. In case you were worried, Barbaro is doing well. Assistant trainer Peter Brette says "He's doing fine. He's in a good frame of mind.". Do you remember Barbaro? He won the Kentucky Derby this year, and quickly brought up discussion that he might become the first triple crown winner in almost thirty years. Instead, he shattered a bone in his leg before the first turn of the Preakness. I went to seminary in Kentucky, in horse farm country. Several of my fellow students had part ti...

Tuesday, July 11, 2006. I'm still processing this, so I will respond more completely to it later, but I found in my email this morning something from the Waco District. Our Conference has decided that in September all our churches will unite in emphasizing the church's mission: MAKING DISCIPLES OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE WORLD. Incredibly, attached to the email were outlines for the sermons for the 3 Sundays we are to plug this theme. I won't even have to figure out what to preach!

Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Free but not easy. Does receiving something free make it easier to accept? I think it might just make it more difficult. I recently bought a membership to an online audiobook club. This site has hundreds of audiobooks available for download. Since I spend so much time in my car, I thought this would be a great investment. To make it even better, for signing up I received one free credit. I get a free audiobook! Yes, I think it does. (I always think it does.). Some of us, for in...

Tuesday, November 29, 2005. Lesson from a Monster Truck. I’d like to think that as a driver I check my mirrors regularly. If I had, though, it wouldn’t have seemed that this monster truck appeared out of nowhere. The truck filled my mirror so suddenly that I actually jumped in my seat. The driver of the truck didn’t seem interested in doing 40. I didn’t get run over. I was passed very soon after entering the highway, but whether the police stop a monster truck for speeding is their business, not mine.

Thursday, July 13, 2006. I've been at JYMO (Jurisdictional Youth Ministry Organization) for most of this week. We are meeting at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. JYMO is a nearly annual youth ministry event for youth groups, and especially youth leaders from the 15 conferences that make up the Southcentral Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church. Most of the event is for leader training. There are daily sessions of Bible Study and worship services. Posted by Steve Heyduck @ 12:56 PM. I att...

Wednesday, December 28, 2005. My daughter and I went for a picnic a while back. We brought the two miniature dachshunds with us. The day was sunny and warm; a perfect day for a picnic. Sasha and Lucy were excited to get to go with us. I continued to look over at the dogs occasionally, and while Sasha was always on the move sniffing some new weed or something, Lucy kept her leash pulled tight. She didn’t seem to care what was within reach. Jesus came that we might have life, and have it abundantly. Al...
