All previous plates over 4 digits were replaced with these. Starting with A/A-1 and going up to A/A-999, then flipping to A/B-1 etc etc. Older plates such as A-1 through Z-999 and 1-9999 would be continued. (GL Collection). Historic Pictures with Plates. Year - Date Decals. Year - Date Tabs. For the first time since 1957, Connecticut is issuing a complete re-issue of all plates. New registrations started this in January 2000 with 100-NZA. After August 2000, any renewal would have their current plate numbers re-issued on the new base. The New base is referred to as a Gradiant Blue graphic base. By August of 2002, all plates should be replaced. Note: After 999-NZZ, there were no plates issued starting with the letter "O".

The prefix letter desigation indicates the location of the toll; G, Greenwich; M, Milford; W, Wallingford Multiple letters on a plate indicate multiple locations the plate was valid for. Meritt Parkway 1953 - White on Red. Merritt Parkway 1954 - White on Green. Merritt Parkway 1955 - Black on Yellow. Merritt Parkway 1956 - Black on Gray.

The plates are issued at a reduced fee, proof of FCC license is required, and the car must be registed in the Licensee's name. The Temp Repair plates are issued when a plate is lost and you receive the replacement in the mail. What about the Metal plates? We know they exist. But I've never heard of one being given out.
