Impressions, Winter 2013. Cuban Housing and Life. When Cubans need food, they go to the local bodega. There’s apparently one on each block that provides food in exchange for the ration coupons that every Cuban receives. This one happens to look like it was painted by Vermeer. On the other hand, there doesn’t appear to be an overwhelming abundance of food on offer. Another possible source of extra income is participation in the tourist industry. Impressions, Winter 2013. Where are the Youth Brigades? We did visit a cooperative farm near Havana called Alamar UBPC that at least shows the way to what could be done. Note the lush carrots and inter-planted lettuce and eggplant. Members of the cooperative share in any profits from selling at markets or to the government. They provided a succulent lunch.
