Captain Ahab's Watery Tales: Canal Societies

Captain Ahab's Watery Tales. An on line logbook of watery wanderings. The Other 60 Miles of the BCN. Whilst British Waterways (Trust) may legally own the inland waterway network, one could argue that its real owners are the various Canal Societies who's members give their time and money to make our watery pleasure ground better and bigger. Barnsley Dearne and Dove Canals Trust. Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterways Trust. Birmingham Canal Navigations Society. Bugsworth Basin - IWPS. Manchester and Stockpor...

http://nbbluemoon.blogspot.com/2014/10/and-finally.html
Thursday, October 9, 2014. This seems a good point to wrap up our blog for 'Blue Moon' and start afresh with a new blog for our new boat. We have had a very enjoyable year of boating and the decision to swap boats was not foreseen at all. But, we have to say, we are absolutely delighted with what we have done and look forward to getting out and about even more next year. October 11, 2014 at 7:25 PM. October 12, 2014 at 8:23 PM. Thanks Yvonne. We couldnt be happier with the boat so far. It just fe...Reall...

ME and me: September 2010
http://richard-lucas.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Living in Fife with ME. Thursday, 30 September 2010. Boats, Gin and Oatcakes. We are just back from our week on Jemima D. The boat feels so much nicer to use with her snug dry new top, and she performed flawlessly throughout the week, despite her elderly little engine being scheduled for a thorough overhaul and rebuild. Life on a narrowboat, watching the world go by at three miles per hour, with pauses to work through locks, is a great stress-buster. We found a handy canal-side damson. Is resting easy as...

Ploddin' Along: Off the river and back on the ditches.
http://nbploddinalong.blogspot.com/2015/06/off-river-and-back-on-ditches.html
Wednesday, June 3, 2015. Off the river and back on the ditches. Well we've got a bit of catching up to do. No signal last night means we've fallen behind with our updates. With Tom and Jan aboard, so we were finally able to meet after all this time. We both stopped at the services and did what we needed to do whilst talking boats etc before we both headed off towards Oxford. Feeling a little dwarved in Sandford Lock. Having passed under Osney Bridge, we turned sharp right for Isis Lock and sadly our Tham...

Ploddin' Along: Lazy days in Leicestershire
http://nbploddinalong.blogspot.com/2015/06/lazy-days-in-leicestershire.html
Tuesday, June 9, 2015. Lazy days in Leicestershire. We've had a lazy few days which we promised ourselves and enjoyed the peaceful summit level of the Leicester Line, Foxton Locks and now we find ourselves at Kilby Bridge, psyching ourselves up for the run through Leicester tomorrow. Lovely day for cruising. She can't get enough of steering now. Despite the sign, we saw no evidence of dredging, so maybe they're getting prepared? We passed through Husbands Bosworth Tunnel before mooring up for the night.

Blue Moon: Potteries & Peaks.
http://nbbluemoon.blogspot.com/2014/08/potteries-peaks.html
Tuesday, August 26, 2014. We are off on our last trip of the year, full of excitement aboard 'Fiona'. We are intending to take it easy with a trip through the Potteries and up into the Peak District via the Macclesfield and Peak Forest to Bugsworth Basin. And then a couple of sharp showers were endured as we headed through Rugeley. There was a nice gap behind What a Lark and before we welcomed Lisa and David aboard, Jasper enjoyed a run and swim in the river. Drinks and a guided tour of 'Fiona' compl...
