The Culinary Cuttlefish: September 2009
http://culinary-cuttlefish.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Cooking, recipes, reviews, and any other thoughts on food that I have. Thursday, September 24, 2009. This new overstock store opened locally and imagine my delight when I see their pantry aisles full of wonderful stuff that is very hard to find in my rural area. Next trip I'm going to raid their selection of pastas which is great. I kept the food purchases minimal this trip because my main focus was getting kitchen equipment. If you haven't noticed from previous posts I don't do any fancy plating, I'm pe...
The Culinary Cuttlefish: Pi Day Tart
http://culinary-cuttlefish.blogspot.com/2010/03/pi-day-tart.html
Cooking, recipes, reviews, and any other thoughts on food that I have. Monday, March 15, 2010. Been a long time since I've updated this blog. I've been busy and it's hard to remember to write posts when I'm cooking for 4 people however this may change soon as I may be moving into my own place soon. March 14 (3.14) is Pi Day. In celebration I made this nice rustic berry tart. Since this was a thrown together recipe the measurements are approximate. Fold edges of the crust in and over the berries (see pict...
The Culinary Cuttlefish: March 2010

Cooking, recipes, reviews, and any other thoughts on food that I have. Monday, March 29, 2010. First Dinner in my Apartment. So I've moved and it feels great to finally be on my own. To celebrate I cooked my first dinner in the new apartment (actually my second dinner here but friends cooked for me last night). I made pan seared salmon and a salad with homemade vinaigrette. This was a roughly 4 ounce piece of fish (half an 8 ounce fillet I cut in half, froze the remaining half for another night) . 1/4 cu...
The Culinary Cuttlefish: October 2009
http://culinary-cuttlefish.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Cooking, recipes, reviews, and any other thoughts on food that I have. Sunday, October 25, 2009. Here's one of those recipes based on a classic that I've modified. Classically roasted tomato soup would be done with fresh tomatoes but good fresh tomatoes are hard to come by in Maine for most of the year so I've used canned tomatoes. I've also added my own twist with roasted sweet red peppers. 2 14oz cans of tomatoes, diced or whole. 1/2 cup chicken stock. Served with some nice crusty toasted bread it's he...

I bought this wonderful book recently Bountiful Container. Which is all about growing foods in containers, it covers vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers. While I like flowers I'm really more interested in growing my own food. Tomato seedlings. I'm not actually going to plant so many,. The extras are more my parents. First leaf on the strawberries.

My ramblings, thoughts, and anything else that does fit on my other blogs. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Right and Wrong ways to Hit on a Woman at a Con. Two contrasting things happened while I was working my table which are relevant to the discussion on harassment and proper behavior at cons. One is an acceptable way to approach a woman at a con and the other is a wrong way to do it. First the right one:. Okay so what in these two situations made them different? Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Sheryl's Scribblings: Stopping Fear and Misogyny

My ramblings, thoughts, and anything else that does fit on my other blogs. Monday, November 02, 2009. Stopping Fear and Misogyny. Recently a story was published in Wired magazine by journalist Amy Wallace titled "An Epidemic of Fear: How Panicked Parents Skipping Shots Endangers Us All". This debate has recently become very personal to me and here is the reason why:. It's also personal in another way. As I found out this week from Orac's blog. And reminded again by Dr. Isis. Sheryl's Scribblings: April 2008
http://noadi-scribbles.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
My ramblings, thoughts, and anything else that does fit on my other blogs. Thursday, April 24, 2008. It's funny the way one Squidoo lens can lead to a bunch of others. Here's a fun series of lenses that all started with one. During the Victorian era Cabinets of Curiosity were all the rage. They collected natural specimens, fossils, artifacts, and oddities. Take a peak into that world. Cephalopod Crafts led me to run across the site of Helle Jorgensen. Making Your Own Recycled Yarn. Links to this post.

My ramblings, thoughts, and anything else that does fit on my other blogs. Wednesday, September 16, 2009. So I attended my very first skeptical event over the weekend, the Northeast Conference on Science and Skepticism. In New York City. It was a lot of fun, I got to meet so many great new people. The conference itself had some wonderful speakers and panels. Definitely the highlight of the day for me was the live Skeptics Guide to the Universe. Podcast and George Hrab. Sheryl's Scribblings: Christopher Maloney is a whiny quack

My ramblings, thoughts, and anything else that does fit on my other blogs. Thursday, February 18, 2010. Christopher Maloney is a whiny quack. Naturopathy is pure quackery. It is an amalgam of dangerous alternative treatments mixed with some effective advice on nutrition. It is not medicine, it is not science, and it is not evidence based. If you want a good take down of why it isn't I direct you to this article on Science Based Medicine. Written by a real doctor. Thursday, February 18, 2010. View my comp...
