Monday, October 17, 2005. True appreciation of everything another is is always rooted in everyday reality. That includes the depths of sensual love. Today there was mention of flour flying (you know who you are), and it drew me to memory of a favorite poem- and a favorite image. The image in Neruda's sonnet is made sweeter by drawing in thoughts of domesticity. (It was written to his wife, Matilde Urrutia). The wonder of love is that we ordinary mortals touch the universe through one another. Remaining i...

Tonight we went to Mi Tierra, a local favorite Mexican restaurant, to celebrate. After dinner, they put a hat on her and seranaded her! Then later we had the waitress take a picture of the three of us.

Saturday, September 17, 2005. Just today, I ran across a copy of a letter I'd written in August of 1995 soon after we'd moved here to Tucson. It was one of the hottest summers on record for this area. I thought you might enjoy a few paragraphs from it. The felt tip drawing of a saguaro cactus above, was a doodle that I'd made down near my signature on the letter. Welcome to the Sonoran Desert! Posted by Dale Savage at 9:05 AM. Tuesday, September 06, 2005. I am trusting and praying all's well with you all.

Friday, February 24, 2006. The last few days, I've been contemplating mortality, and the importance of really contemplating who or what is really important in life- how crucial it is to at least reach for happiness while we are able to enjoy it. The following verses are from Nahuatl (Aztec) Poets from the 14th and 15th centuries. I ran across them while reading the book, 1491. Not forever on earth; only a little while here. Be it jade, it shatters. Be it gold, it breaks. Like a painting, we will be erased.
