backpacking: September 2013

http://cumbriafellraven.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, 28 September 2013. Arnison Crag and Hexamid Trial. It's after tea when I get parked up in Patterdale and head up Arnison Crag behind the hotels. Instead of keeping to the wall side I stupidly head for the ridge and pay the price of wading through deep bracken. It's getting dark but I need to keep going to finally find water below Trough Head in Hag Beck. Next morning after 2 bowls of porridge I power up into the mist on the east ridge of St Sunday Crag. Sunday, 8 September 2013. I've just done ...

Tuesday, 19 February 2013. On and Off for 46 Years. 1975 with brother Andrew, Carlin Gill in the Howgills. Andrew with Leeds scarf. I started with my dad, I think I was around 12. As far as I know no photos were taken and we climbed Helvellyn via Striding Edge, Pavey ark via Jack's Rake and Scafell Pike from Great Langdale. Tris was born and at 9 months old I carried him up Scafell via Lord's Rake, and Dawne carried the nappies. The view above is descending from Great Gable. This book lists 244 Lakeland ...

Tuesday, 30 July 2013. Pennine Walk. Day4. Another beautiful day and I head down to Thwaite in Swaledale. I'm so busy being annoyed with the constant signs to keep to the path and walk in single file through the field that I head off down the valley for 10 minutes before doubling back to head up and over to Keld. I arrive at a quiet time at the tea room. 10 minutes later and theres a big queue out of the door as cars full of folk arrive. Monday, 29 July 2013. Pennine Walk. Day3. The path then heads up th...

Sunday, 2 March 2014. Powder snow in the Helvellyn Massif. We were in the car park at Greenside Mine by 08:50hrs. By the time it took to get the the gear on the car park was full, but at least the heavy sleet shower had stopped. Catsycam looking wonderful under the cover of snow. Round about now I'm wondering why I kept my fleece on under the cag. I sure as hell am not going to stop and take the sack off. A great day out with the Lake District Ski Club. http:/ www.ldscsnowski.co.uk/. Not Had Enough Time.

backpacking: April 2014

http://cumbriafellraven.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Monday, 21 April 2014. Good Friday is not the best day to travel The roads were gridlocked and there were huge tailbacks just to get through Callander. After a full day on the road we finally got to the campsite in Glencoe and parked the van. It may not be wild camping but the view from the site is awesome. We walk into the village and catch the local shop just shutting and get the last loaf of bread. Sandwiches sorted for the walk. The path is easy going and zig zags up the fell. The views open up.
