These carvings are treated with Cupronol fence life, a water based wood stain, for outside use, available at most DIY outlets, and comes in several different colours. In Common with all wood products that are open to the elements, cracks may appear in your carving, this is a natural process due to the wood shrinking as it dries and is not a cause for concern, it will swell again when it gets wet and the cracks should close.
