The Cape Union Mart Hiking Club is an independent hiking club based in Cape Town. We arrange day and weekend hikes for both members and visitors in and around Cape Town, the Western Cape, and other parts of South Africa. The difficulty of the hikes ranges from very easy to very challenging and, with around 120 hikes a year to choose from, every type of hiker should be accommodated. Our hiking club has over 20 experienced leaders, some of whom have been hiking for over 20 years.

Protect and preserve the natural beauty of nature. Do not take shortcuts, stay on the designated footpaths. Carry everything away that you have taken with you - including empty containers, fruit peels, tissues and cigarette butts. Do not destroy vegetation or animal life, pick flowers, dig up plants or take away anything you find on the hike - unless it is rubbish. Do not create fire hazards and please note that smoking is not allowed on any of our hikes. Adequate rain gear, cold weather gear and sun gear.

Although we encourage hikers to become members of the Cumhike club, non-members are most welcome as well. Day hikes are free for members, and a fee of R20 per adult and R10 per scholar is charged for non-members. In some cases a permit or gate fee may apply if the hike is in a private or nature conservation area. For more information, visit our membership page. I popped into the garden to see what was in flower in the seasonal beds. Wow. what a lot of colour! Ah, there's the striking Strelitzia, or crane flower. That orange is so bright! The yellow variety is known as 'Mandela's Gold'. Stunning! I also walked around the Glasshouse to see the succulents and bulbs. There are always interesting things to see here.
