What’s the best way to understand this phrase? Well, yeah, but the text has μὴ εἰσενέγκῃς εἰς …. Or perhaps testing …. ואל תביאני לא לידי חטא.

October 13th, 2013, 7:54 am. Τοῦτο γὰρ ἴστε γινώσκοντες ὅτι πᾶς πόρνος ἢ ἀκάθαρτος ἢ πλεονέκτης, ὅ ἐστιν εἰδωλολάτρης, οὐκ ἔχει κληρονομίαν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ θεοῦ. This is an unusual phrase, isn’t it? Ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ would not have surprised me, the Kingdom of God is a common phrase, the Kingdom of Christ and God much less so – does it occur elsewhere? February 14th, 2013, 6:14 am. Καὶ ἦν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ μήτηρ θαυμάζοντες ἐπὶ τοῖς λαλουμένοις περὶ αὐτοῦ. Why is the main verb ἦν singular when the subject ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ μήτηρ and the modifying participle θαυμάζοντες are both plural? Is this a case of anacoluthon where the writer was initially thinking about Joseph’s amazement and changed syntactic horses mid-stream to include Mary as well? February 15th, 2013, 9:20 am. Καὶ ἦν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ μήτηρ θαυμάζοντες ἐπὶ τοῖς λαλουμένοις περὶ αὐτοῦ.

I came across this passage in Zerwick's 'Biblical Greek':. Very pertinent quote. A.T. Robertson aptly explains the genitive. (emphasis mine). At every stage one needs to recall the root-idea of the case (genus or kind) and find in that and the environment and history the explanation. (My apologies…I couldn’t get the circumflex over the iota in ἑλθειν for some reason)γυναικάριον, ου τό is diminutive of γυνή with derogatory connotation, but it is neuter…does this open up its meaning to include men acting as foolish little women? February 14th, 2013, 9:53 am. How should I read ὡς πῦρ in this passage – like this? I see GNTs punctuated both ways. In the first reading, in what sense is storing up things like fire? Ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες καὶ διηποροῦντο, ἄλλος πρὸς ἄλλον λέγοντες, τί θέλει τοῦτο εἶναι;. Should I read it as passive or middle? How would the meaning of the sentence be changed if it were simply omitted? What is the difference between these two sentences:. Πολὺ ἰσχύει δέησις δικαίου ἐνεργουμένη. Πολὺ ἰσχύει δέησις δικαίου. Ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες καὶ διηποροῦντο, ἄλλος πρὸς ἄλλον λέγοντες, τί θέλει τοῦτο εἶναι;.
