David Steinlicht: Imagined meeting notes

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2015/06/imagined-meeting-notes.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Sunday, June 28, 2015. An imagined meeting shortly before the release of the new Simpsons tie-in, Duff Energy Drink. BEVERAGE PROFESSIONAL: We made the color like you wanted - it's between the color of Budweiser beer and the color of Orange Crush. But frankly, this seems like an ugly color. MATT GROENING: I approve. How about the taste? MATT GROENING [Taking a sip]: Whew! Again - I approve. BEVERAGE PROFESSIONAL: So . . . we proceed with this?

David Steinlicht: July 2015

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Nice cover. Great image by Ivan Otis. Lots of inviting white space. A fun and furry treatment for Vue Weekly logo. Looks good. Minor quibble: Even though there are four "A"s in the artist's name, the most interesting part of any word containing a capital "Q" - is the capital "Q." So I'd include it in the artistic treatment of the name. Kinda like this. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 24-Hour Comic Day blog. St Paul Pioneer Press.

David Steinlicht: February 2015

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Saturday, February 28, 2015. I like the original cover this week. The drawing, by Jill Stanton, is fun and gets across the subject matter. The logo looks great just knocked out of that black background. My logo is in Avenir Condensed. It's really the current Vue logo with a different typeface and the contrast between bold and light cranked up some more. Sunday, February 22, 2015. Both I and the original cover designer reworked the actual Pedway sign. We bo...

David Steinlicht: Do-over

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2015/04/do-over.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Thursday, April 23, 2015. In looking at old Twin Cities Reader covers, I find I'm ashamed of a couple of them. Too much color, too many colors. Misuse of type. So I've decided to do a couple of them again. I've been giving the Vue Weekly grief lately, so I thought I'd give myself some of the same.). As always, click on the pictures for closer. In the redo, I went with a spot-color gray instead of green. A subtle treatment for very big type.

David Steinlicht: October 2013

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Monday, October 28, 2013. Steve Jobs in the movies. Steve Jobs was a character. Snotty. Smart. Bull-headed. Know-it-all. Movies love that kind of person as a villain. I was reminded of what a great villain Steve Jobs could be while watching the new animated movie, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.". The main character - Flint Lockwood - is an inventor who idolizes an established inventor - Chester V. He's a total Steve Jobs character. I have to say that I ...

David Steinlicht: March 2015

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Friday, March 27, 2015. I've been letting the covers slide for a couple weeks, but this one jolted me back into action. What do you do when you get a horizontal picture for use on a vertical cover? 8226; You can do a couple things. Using Photoshop, you can clone an element of the picture to add height. In this case, you could make that grass a much larger area. For the flag this week, I'm using Nick Shinn's Beaufort. And - white space. Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

David Steinlicht: November 2014

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Thursday, November 20, 2014. No longer made in China. Picked up a cool-looking screen cleaner thing at Staples office supplies. I bought it because it looks cool. The cleaning liquid is in a little sprayer that is wrapped in the cleaning cloth material and the whole thing is snug inside a clear plastic holder. When you take it out of it's holder it looks like this. The cleaner is named Mist and it's available in variety of colors. Sunday, November 09, 2014.

David Steinlicht: Vue Project 1024

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2015/06/vue-project-1024.html

David Steinlicht: May 2015

http://davidsteinlicht.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

A shallow look at topics of slight interest. Monday, May 04, 2015. It was a dress, but it could be a cape. This image on Twitter got my attention. Because I couldn't figure out what it was trying to say. I searched the internet using Google, and eventually Tin Eye,. And found that it was a promotion for a software-writing company. And the thing that wasn't a dress was - a superhero cape. And there is even itwasneveradress.com. Is a superhero outfit. Now it's obvious enough so that even I get it. Changed ...
