Bassam in Syria: March 2006
http://beesso.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Tuesday, March 21, 2006. Absolutely. No Trash. Ok, I know the picture isn't great, but that is what you can expect from my mobile camera. Anyway, the green sign (almost illegible) says:. يمنع منعا باتا إلقاء القمامة تحت طائلة المسؤولية ودفع غرامة مالية. The sign literally reads in English: "It is absolutely forbidden to throw trash here, responsibles will be fined". This is a daily scene by the way, and not a solitary incident. Has no equ...

An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Monday, February 27, 2006. طريقة تجعل اسم كتاب ك : بو ل و فرجيني يفهم على أنه: Paul and Verginie وليس Piss and show me. لذا فكرت بمايلي: أولا : الأحرف P و V و G (كما في goat) يجب أن تكتب بمعادلاتها العربية كمايلي:. ثانيا : أحرف العلة. Bassam in Syria: September 2005
http://beesso.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Thursday, September 29, 2005. An evening with فرقة قوس قزح (Rainbow group). We, me and my bro, arrived at 7:30 awaiting the concert at 8 sharp. Ten minutes to 8 there was a power outage that lasted for about 40 minutes. People were tolerant and no one complained meanwhile. The group started instantly after the outage, at which time they were even ready to perform with no microphones and electricity. Posted by Bassam @ 8:08 PM. سهيل لم يتغ...

Bassam in Syria: January 2006
http://beesso.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Sunday, January 29, 2006. Finally, I presented my lecture on the Palliative Medicine and Pain Management. It was good. I was afraid as it was supposed to be in Arabic, and I haven't used that language for any scientific reason in ages. But overall went well. A good number of doctors attended and the room was crowded, my new fiancee also attended :). I hope this will be the begining of a new series of lectures for medical education. Homsi:...

Bassam in Syria: October 2005
http://beesso.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Monday, October 31, 2005. It is now getting to feel like winter, or rather, late autumn time. People not used to cold feel it is like Siberia here, but that is just an exaggeration. One benefit of living in very cold places for a long time is that you know what really cold is like. If this means one thing, it means the start of cold weather traditions, and most notably: "grown fava beans (GFB)", literal translation of فول نابت. The presen...

Bassam in Syria: July 2005
http://beesso.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Sunday, July 31, 2005. I spent most of the day today out, for a change. Given the fact I am here for a couple of years at least, I don't feel rushed to do anything. In the morning we went to start the process of issuing a new driver license. This required getting a "non-convicted" form. It turns out I am not! Lord, help me. Posted by Bassam @ 12:33 AM. Saturday, July 30, 2005. Is a constant question. Do you want this, how about that a...

Bassam in Syria: December 2005
http://beesso.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Saturday, December 31, 2005. But as life goes on we had more than one reason to have a nice celebration. The same food being made over and over again is prepared. With huge crowds around the dining table, or "lunching" table, on the day before and after Xmas. It is the occasion that lost some of its uniqueness or me who lost the occasion, or is it both? Posted by Bassam @ 4:33 PM. Saturday, December 24, 2005. Posted by Bassam @ 12:27 PM.

Bassam in Syria: April 2006
http://beesso.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
An account of what Bassam's re-experiencing of home would be like. Monday, April 17, 2006. I am a big fan of Tintin, the renowned comic character from Herge, and who isn't. And now that my brother got the whole animated series, I started watching it with extreme pleasure. My parents could not understand why. Luckily I don't have to explain. My point is: up until now I thought I have read aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll the Tintin book. Wrong And those of you in the Arab world. you didn't either. My cous...
