Twelve Days of Oatmeal » Curmudgeon Cookery

Twelve Days of Oatmeal. Lake Dorothy in a good mood. We also had no tents. Tents were heavy and expensive much more so, relatively speaking, than they are today. They were made out of canvas, always leaked, and were hard to clean, fold and pack. Did I mention heavy? Posted by Donald Worthington. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Wild Mincemeat » Curmudgeon Cookery

http://www.curmudgeoncookery.com/blog/wild-mincemeat

You can still find many recipes for mincemeat, and they will all vary. Today, there’s even “vegetarian mincemeat,” certainly an oxymoronic term. They will vary in sweetness and ingredients, but the tradition of a mince pie is one that we feel the holidays just wouldn’t be the same without. Bake it into a double shell pie, load it up with your favorite topping, and enjoy a little piece of holiday tradition. Posted by Donald Worthington. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Christmas 1881 » Curmudgeon Cookery

http://www.curmudgeoncookery.com/blog/christmas-1881

In keeping with the celebration of the season and those proven values from a by-gone America, here is a Christmas story told by an anonymous old Curmudgeon about a Christmas from his youth, in 1881 when he was fifteen years old. Enjoy. Outside, I became even more dismayed. There in front of the house was the work team, already hitched to the big sled. Whatever it was we were going to do wasn’t going to be a short, quick, little job. I could tell. We never hitched up this sled unless...Pa was already up o...

Easter Rabbit » Curmudgeon Cookery

http://www.curmudgeoncookery.com/blog/easter-rabbit

I think my grandkids must hate me. But hey that’s what we curmudgeons do, isn’t it? I actually think my grandchildren are wonderful, by the way, even if they are a little on the spoiled and whiny side, lol – but then that’s the other side of my job: spoil ‘em silly, fill ‘em full of sugar and soda pop, shake ‘em up a little bit and send them home. Ahhh, revenge is sweet.). Posted by Donald Worthington. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You must be logged in to post a comment. A Man I Didn’t Know Died this Week.

Top of mind awareness on some days, stream of continuousness on others. Sunday, April 27, 2008. I READ: The Next Book On My List. You heard me, tough guy. I read. This causes me to digress a moment. If 50 is the new 30, then the new eighth grade reader is now a fourth grade reader. Sad but true. Still, I gravitate toward people who read. I'll have to accuse myself of being elitist in that sense. The more accurate statement today is "knowledge is only power when you use it to create new knowledge". But th...

The Curmudgeon Diaries | A fine kerfuffle!

March 4, 2013. Some Washington State representative named Ed Orcutt made the following comment in an email to a constituent about a taxing bicycling:. The complete email and associated article is here. Anyone who takes that position is an idiot! Won’t any other form of transportation contribute greenhouse gasses in relatively greater amounts? Cycling is one of the only forms of transportation that lowers emissions the more it is used (aerobic conditioning). Better outlaw beans, peas and cabbage. Curmudge...
