http://www.curmudgeongamer.com/2014/02/johnhs-finished-games-for-2013.html
Curmudgeoning all games equally. JohnH's finished games for 2013. Yaawn, is the blog waking up again? Jvm posted his games finished, I suppose I should do the same. Unfortunately I've played rather little this year, despite (because of? Getting a Wii U. But I have played and completed (or at least played significant amounts of) these:. Spelunky HD. I have played a good deal of this, indeed it's one of the few games I can stand playing right now. It gets so many things just right. The game of Pac-Man....

Curmudgeoning all games equally. Support the Little Guys. Out with my sister today, we happened upon a little hole-in-the-wall videogame and DVD shop. This kind of shop reminds me why EB Games/GameStop aren't perfect for me: little shops buy and sell almost anything for any system, often at reasonable prices. Today I picked up Prince of Persia: Arabian Nights. For the Dreamcast and BurgerTime. Also at good prices. So when my brother wanted a copy of Metal Gear Solid. And while the guys in independent sto...

Curmudgeoning all games equally. Fans of commercial emulation packages, prepare for anger. From the Taito Legends review at Gamespot. I'd like to think that the author, Jeff Gerstmann, was holding back a burning rage as he wrote those lines. If I were a die-hard fan of any of those three games, and had been looking forward to them for months, I would be furious at Taito for treating these games so shoddily. Look, Game Companies, here's a very simple rule for you to follow when rereleasing old games.

Curmudgeoning all games equally. Merry Xmas to me: How I learned to hate Steam. When Steam come out for the Mac and brought with it Team Fortress 2, I was excited. Getting Portal (and some TF2 earbuds. For free made for a nice bonus. Figuring out that I've got a gaming store in my office (along the lines of the music store Apple put in my pocket. Has me more worried. Here, I'll come clean. You can see that I need to stop the Xmas bleeding before it becomes significant. The first three games I wan...Note ...

Curmudgeoning all games equally. Story vs. Choice in Konami Games (Part 1). Few videogames offer true self-determination. Some tell a fixed story divided into episodes by sections of free-form gameplay. Others limit gameplay freedom yet permit the player to determine how the story ends. I'm going to look at how three Konami series - Metal Gear Solid. Integrate self-determination with story and gameplay. Here's how Metal Gear Solid. Plays out. So let’s look at what is causing the problems. Industry pathetically slow at going online. Microsoft’s pricing policy. What is important is getting volumes of platforms out there, whatever the cost&#...

A veteran's view on marketing games. Gambling as a video game business model. Gambling as a video game business model. January 28, 2011. The eternal problem of selling a video game as a stand alone package is that it can and will be stolen. In other words often very few users of your product are actually paying for the work that you have done. Some people have...

Curmudgeoning all games equally. ADR1FT is Gravity: The Game of the Movie. Even on a regular ol' TV, the visuals are mesmerizing and you'll involuntarily hold your breath as your oxygen runs low. I'll speculate that it's intense played in VR. Not quite a system-seller, but still impressive. I completed the game, and enjoyed it. I think I picked it up for a couple of bucks on sale for the PlayStation 4. Talos Principle is Cryptic Fun. I really can't think of anything I don't like about The Talos Principle.
