An Engineer's Take on Life: Cloud Computing
http://www.curmudgineer.com/2011/10/cloud-computing.html
An Engineer's Take on Life. This guy's theme music hasn't started yet. Friday, October 28, 2011. I was surfing on a Cloud Computing vendor website earlier this afternoon, and I came across a survey. It asked if I'm part of that "New work paradigm" by working in the cloud. As if there’s anything really new about it. I’ve been working in a cloud for the past three decades. An Engineer's Take on Life: The Art of Hiring

An Engineer's Take on Life. This guy's theme music hasn't started yet. Thursday, October 11, 2012. The Art of Hiring. Over the years, I've been asked to interview lots of candidates for technical positions. Having had no guidance in this process, I've had to learn from my mistakes. Here's what I learned:. Have zero tolerance for spelling and grammar mistakes on the resume. Hey, if a candidate can't get it right on this important document, he won't get it right on the job. See my first impression. Assess ...
An Engineer's Take on Life: Is This the Final Final, or Is This the Final Final Final?

An Engineer's Take on Life. This guy's theme music hasn't started yet. Friday, October 21, 2011. Is This the Final Final, or Is This the Final Final Final? Oh how I envy the simplicity! It’s a good thing Shakespeare lived back in the days of quill and parchment. Were we to saddle him with a word processor and a web page, none of his plays would have seen the light of day. An Engineer's Take on Life: Fear the Web Cam
http://www.curmudgineer.com/2011/11/fear-web-cam.html
An Engineer's Take on Life. This guy's theme music hasn't started yet. Monday, November 7, 2011. Fear the Web Cam. I used to keep the webcam on top of my monitor looking directly at me. It never bothered me because I was in control. Occasionally, I would turn it on for a quick web-conference, but not too often. I usually preferred to keep it off during conversations, as I would get more than a bit self conscious when I could actually feel. Simple. I no longer control my webcam. Labels: webcam video call.
An Engineer's Take on Life: Beware of Phone Surveys
http://www.curmudgineer.com/2011/11/beware-of-phone-surveys.html
An Engineer's Take on Life. This guy's theme music hasn't started yet. Tuesday, November 1, 2011. Beware of Phone Surveys. Nothing gets under my skin faster than a slick voice on the other end of the phone, asking question after question after question, as part of a "survey" to improve a product that'll make my life easier. I fell for it once, but never again. I asked, thinking that some emergency was taking place. A cheery voice on the other end of the line replied. "Can I ask you a few questions? You b...

CURMUDGUCATION
A grumpy old teacher trying to keep up the good classroom fight in the new age of reformy stuff. Saturday, August 15, 2015. VAM on Trial in NY. If you don't know Sheri Lederman's name, you should. She's the New York teacher who, with her lawyer husband, dragged VAM into a courtroom this week and gave it the beatdown it so richly deserved. Because of the importance of the case, lots of folks were there to watch. Carol Burris has a great account. In The Answer Sheet, and this blog by Alexndra Milleta.
