Blackfriars: Don’t let Boris Johnson’s TfL send cycling back to 2006 | Cycle of Futility
https://cycleoffutility.wordpress.com/2011/10/05/blackfriars-dont-let-boris-johnsons-tfl-send-cycling-back-to-2006
In a world class cycling city…. Laquo; Transport for London’s lack of transparency: just one example. Behind the stats: How TfL misled the London Assembly about Blackfriars. Blackfriars: Don’t let Boris Johnson’s TfL send cycling back to 2006. In the recent discussions about the proposed 80mph motorway speed limit, I was reminded on twitter of an article by Jeremy Clarkson, where he says. Expanding on Clarkson’s point (words I don’t write often) is that as well as people shifting. Will be if they go ahead.
Henly’s Corner: A walker’s paradise? | Cycle of Futility
https://cycleoffutility.wordpress.com/2011/05/25/henlys-corner-a-walkers-paradise
In a world class cycling city…. Laquo; Flash ride: a couple of hundred people say no to lethal junctions. How TfL’s Blackfriars bluster is undermining their public face. Henly’s Corner: A walker’s paradise? TfL have always been in favour of walking. Rarely do they release a marketing publication without several paragraphs explaining how pedestrians will benefit from the newest scheme designed to maximise the amount of traffic on London’s streets. The current improvement works. Well, either that or they d...

In a world class cycling city…. Laquo; Why have TfL cut 40m from the Cycle Superhighways budget? Transport for London’s lack of transparency: just one example. London is broken: why people keep taking to the streets at Blackfriars. Running the roads is an enormously expensive business. TfL’s Surface Transport division’s expenditure is forecast. At 26bn this year. Let’s put this in perspective for a second this is. While much of the press bemoaned last week’s fares rises in articles. Why isn’t this news?
What’s wrong with lane rental: it counts vehicles not people | Cycle of Futility
https://cycleoffutility.wordpress.com/2011/08/22/what’s-wrong-with-lane-rental-it-counts-vehicles-not-people
In a world class cycling city…. Laquo; FOI: Transport for London start to react. Freedom of Information: TfL gets nasty. What’s wrong with lane rental: it counts vehicles not people. The Department for Transport have today launched a 12-week consultation. On a proposed lane rental scheme, where utilities companies would charged for digging up the road. Transport for London will tomorrow begin their consultation. On whether we should have this in London. DfT Guidance to Local Authorities. This is a phrase...

Transport for London’s lack of transparency: just one example. As the protests at Blackfriars continue. It is worth looking at the issues which made this bridge the battleground for variety of campaigners around cycling, air pollution and reclaiming streets for people. Kennington People on Bikes: February 2015
http://kenningtonpob.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Kennington People on Bikes. Charlie Holland's blog, aiming for more people cycling more often, particularly in north Lambeth. Thursday, 26 February 2015. Street Furniture obsession in Swansea - part two. My previous post started with a line of bollards; here's a line of benches. It's important to have seats but the reason for the alignment (beyond mirroring a decorative track) isn't clear to me - it's not a particularly social 'sit and chat with your mates' set up. They're not svelte benches and I wonder...

Kennington People on Bikes. Charlie Holland's blog, aiming for more people cycling more often, particularly in north Lambeth. Sunday, 10 August 2014. Quietway 2, Southwark part - Consultation. Southwark have a consultation. Running until August 15th that had either gone unnoticed until an eagle eyed cyclist spotted it on the 8th August, or has just gone on-line with an incredibly short consultation period during the summer holidays. The plans include many good improvements to this route which will make i...

Kennington People on Bikes: Should these streets be reopened to through motor traffic?
http://kenningtonpob.blogspot.com/2015/07/should-these-streets-be-reopened-to.html
Kennington People on Bikes. Charlie Holland's blog, aiming for more people cycling more often, particularly in north Lambeth. Saturday, 4 July 2015. Should these streets be reopened to through motor traffic? Article in the June edition of Highways Magazine outlines the benefits of 'taming' streets by closing them to through motor traffic. Access is retained for motor vehicles while calm, convenient and safe through routes are created for people of all ages walking and cycling. Questions why Councils don'...
iamnotacyclist: why we didn't go to the skyride
http://iamnotacyclist.blogspot.com/2011/09/why-we-didnt-go-to-skyride.html
Sunday, 11 September 2011. Why we didn't go to the skyride. Last week I missed two events. One of which was the launch of the Cycling Embassy of Great Britain. Not a car in sight but highvis and sport. Gear prevails. Go Skyride! If Skyride is to promote everyday cycling it should happen everyday during rush hour, school and grocery runs. What is the point of showing people that they can come to central London once a year and cycle aimlessly around? This year Kelly has lights that actually work. I have to...

Thursday, 3 March 2011. It's time to talk. I've been neglecting my blog, my twitter activity and many other things since the recession seems to be finally over in my segment of the market (as an extension of the "unexpected" boom in Middle Eastern building market) which means I have just enough spare time to see my kids every evening and to sleep. Thus an event has been set up for people who would like to see London change into a much more pleasant place. It's called Street Talks. These events are a uniq...
iamnotacyclist: My response to Kulveer Ranger
http://iamnotacyclist.blogspot.com/2011/12/my-response-to-kulveer-ranger.html
Thursday, 15 December 2011. My response to Kulveer Ranger. Kulveer Ranger has issued a statement. This is my reponse to it. As a person who cycles through London every day I must say that your view of what has been done differs considerably from what people who cycle can see. Cycling isn't getting safer really. Until now the domain of fit men, it is quickly becoming popular among all ages and fitness level. Let's see if it becomes safer when kids, elderly and other groups start cycling. I rea...My sour t...
