Cycling 100 Miles...

Why Were Doing It. Monday, 15 August 2011. York 100: Race Report. After a painfully restless night we rose at 5am on Sunday morning, both feeling groggy and apprehensive about the day ahead. My stomach was doing cartwheels, and I wasn't even slightly hungry for my porridge and banana - a rare thing in this household! I managed a small bowl of porridge, but as we headed out on our bikes for the University Sports Centre I was feeling incredibly nauseous, and my whole body was visibly shaking! The first hil...

Cycling 100 Miles...: What We're Doing

http://cycling100miles.blogspot.com/p/what-were-doing.html

Why Were Doing It. On 14th August 2011 we will be cycling 100 miles around Yorkshire to raise money for the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract. This is a race which takes place annually, thanks to Action Medical Research. And tickled our fancy last year, when neither of us had a decent bike or any real cycling experience! Since then, we've got bikes and padded shorts, and explored miles of Yorkshire in the hope that we'd be fit enough to take part in this gruelling race! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Cycling 100 Miles...: July 2011

http://cycling100miles.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Why Were Doing It. Sunday, 24 July 2011. York to Whitby; the Last Training Challenge. This weekend was the last weekend of training before we have to start tapering (reducing our weekly mileage in preparation for the big race). Since we didn't manage to get to Whitby. Last weekend, the bright skies that greeted us early on Saturday morning were very welcome indeed. The planned route was to head to Whitby via Pickering, then take the 'Cinder Track' cycle path. Overlooking the Castle Howard estate. Finally...

Cycling 100 Miles...: Cycling in Northumbria - Sustrans Route #68: The Cheviot Hills

http://cycling100miles.blogspot.com/2011/07/cycling-in-northumbria-sustrans-route.html

Why Were Doing It. Wednesday, 13 July 2011. Cycling in Northumbria - Sustrans Route #68: The Cheviot Hills. We took a couple of wrong turns when heading out to join the cycleway, which gave us our first taste of how relentlessly hilly the landscape is here - struggling over hilly roads to find you've come the wrong way only meant more hilly roads on the way back! Cheviot Hills Elevation Map. Compared even with our tougest ride, it was much hiller as you can see! See that small splodge heading up the hill?

http://cycling100miles.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Why Were Doing It. Sunday, 24 April 2011. Easter Sunday Test Ride. At last, Daniel's bike was delivered to him yesterday evening. It's been in the pipeline for months and months, and now he finally has a bike which might actually get him through the 100-mile race (I don't doubt that he would have given it a good go even on his old Dawes, but that's by-the-by)! And "what a machine! The goal was to try out Bulmer Bank just once more, then enjoy a picnic on a shady bench in a lovely village in the Howardian...

Friday, 1 June 2012. Greipel in charge in Luxembourg. Andre Greipel continued his dominant streak to claim sprint victory on stage one at the Tour de Luxembourg. The German (Lotto-Belisol) backed up three stage wins at the Tour of Belgium with another success, besting the bunch sprint into Hesperange on the first road stage of the event. Greipel kicked on the right-hand side of the road in the final metres and held off Team Sky’s Davide Appollonio and Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis) on the line. The Frenchman ...
