Cycling Down Under

Friday, February 11, 2011. The final day of this tour. I left Capertee around 8.30am, after taking a photo of this unremarkable place:. And headed south on the Castlereagh Highway towards Lithgow, a journey of around 45kms. The road was quite busy and also had some big hills, however it had a decent hard shoulder so was safe enough for cycling. After a few kms I reached Pearson’s Lookout, from where I got some fantastic views over the Capertee Valley:. Thursday, February 10, 2011. I left the very pleasan...

Cycling Down Under

http://cyclingdownunder2011.blogspot.com/2011/02/i-left-hill-end-around-9am-and-hit-road.html

Wednesday, February 9, 2011. I left Hill End around 9am and hit the road to Mudgee, my destination for the day. The road continued undulating and hilly as it was yesterday. There was a dirt section for a few km but it didn’t last long and I was soon back on good tarmac with virtually no other traffic all day. I came across this very strange looking insect crossing the road:. The road onward continued hilly and afforded some decent views:. The wineries in this region don’t tend to export overseas an...

Cycling Down Under: Day 1 - Tuesday 8/2/11

http://cyclingdownunder2011.blogspot.com/2011/02/day-1-tuesday-8211.html

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Day 1 - Tuesday 8/2/11. Hi, thanks for checking out this blog, which is the latest instalment in my quest to ride all of the routes detailed in the Lonely Planet Cycling Australia guide. Previous episodes have covered my rides from Sydney to Brisbane. And Melbourne to Sydney. This time I’m taking it relatively easy, planning on doing 2 separate rides in NSW with a break in between, as on this holiday I need to spend some time in Sydney. At about 4.30pm I arrived at Hill End...

Cycling Down Under

http://cyclingdownunder2011.blogspot.com/2011/02/blog-post.html

Thursday, February 10, 2011. I left the very pleasant town of Mudgee at 8.30am and headed east along the very quiet Lue Road. The weather was cloudy but warm nonetheless. After a few kms I was saddened to see a dead wombat, obviously recently killed, by the side of the road. The road offered wide views of the fertile land surrounding the Cudgegong River:. About 29kms from Mudgee is the small town of Lue, of which most of the buildings seemed to be deserted:. The revised route took me out of Kandos toward...

Izzy's Blog: Affordable Housing

http://666izzy.blogspot.com/2012/10/affordable-housing.html

Tuesday, 2 October 2012. From time to time, people talk about the need for "affordable housing" - most recently by Shadow Chancellor, Ed Balls. At the Labour Conference. But what do we mean by 'affordable housing'? The first thing to look at is the cost of housing. Taking data from Lloyds Banking Group's website. It is very clear to see that average house prices have risen, fairly steadily, but does this, by itself mean houses are not affordable? Rather helpfully, the Lloyds Banking Group website. This s...

Wednesday, 5 February 2014. How do we stop it? This evening I've been to see The Railway Man which - as Wikipedia. There are no winners in war, but still it goes on. In one scene in The Railway Man, Eric Lomax is shown being subjected to water boarding. Since 1988, a convention that specifically bans torture under any conditions. The film does end with Eric Lomax forgiving Takashi Nagase. While another film I saw recently - Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. As a way to build peace between the various factio...

Sunday, 12 February 2012. Price labelling in Sainsbury's. On a recent trip to my local Sainsbury's I wanted to buy some bananas. Being cost conscious, I decided to use the price comparison labels to see which bananas were the cheapest, and how much extra I'd have to pay for organically-grown ones. There were three types of bananas, all clearly labelled with their price and a comparison price:. That's £1 for 5 bananas, so 20p per banana. That's 52p per kilogram, or 24p per pound. Like all major retailers,...

Saturday, 11 October 2014. Why can't they see the link? I picked up a copy of the Daily Mail. Inside the paper, there is also a double page spread, with the headline SCHOOL OF JIHADIS. Izzy's Blog: Elections and Voting

http://666izzy.blogspot.com/2014/02/elections-and-voting.html

Friday, 28 February 2014. For me, the answer is simple - no party is actually offering me the things I want. In fact, in many ways, I can see little difference between the main parties! So, what would I like a party to advocate? I know somebody will say that this would mean good (sic) people would leave the country. Well, fine - let them go! So we'd all be better off with a shorter working week - more people would have work and they'd be more productive! But, lets make sure all employees (including shop ...

Sunday, 27 November 2011. Milo resting on the windowsill. We’re told that one of the problems with the modern world is that we have easy access to food – but so does Mitsey! There are cat biscuits available 24/7, and they are biscuits she likes. I know she prefers the expensive Hill’s T/D and will pick them out of whatever was on offer the last time I was in the supermarket but she does eat the cheap biscuits too. Mitsey ready for a hard Winter's day. What about snacks and treats? I do wish she’d a...
