WOCN's Cycling for Scholarships: A Note of Gratitude

http://cyclingforscholarships.blogspot.com/2011/06/note-of-gratitude.html

WOCN's Cycling for Scholarships. 200,000. 3,100 miles. And one 72-year-old champion for WOC nursing. Monday, June 13, 2011. A Note of Gratitude. Throughout and after Katherine's journey across the Southern tier of the United States, many people have sent her cards expressing gratitude towards her. The note below is from a woman who Katherine never met. Though I've never met you, you are an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others who are aware of your dedication to this cause. WOCN's Cycling for Scholarships: March 2011

http://cyclingforscholarships.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

WOCN's Cycling for Scholarships. 200,000. 3,100 miles. And one 72-year-old champion for WOC nursing. Thursday, March 31, 2011. According to Katherine: Day 26 Recap. We got our first taste of the Hill Country this morning: The trill of mockingbirds, the rugged landscape punctuated by majestic live oaks, lacy mesquite trees with their branches swaying in the breeze and scruffy cedar trees. Along the way, we saw some gorgeous ranch gates, typical of Texas. I'll try not to post any more complaints about the ...

WOCN's Cycling for Scholarships: Recollecting and Reflecting

http://cyclingforscholarships.blogspot.com/2011/06/recollecting-and-reflecting.html

WOCN's Cycling for Scholarships. 200,000. 3,100 miles. And one 72-year-old champion for WOC nursing. Wednesday, June 8, 2011. I asked for prayers for safety for all the cyclists. No one was badly injured. I asked for prayers for no rain. There was not a drop of rain on any riding or resting day during our 58-day journey. God’s grace never failed me. He was on time, in time, all the time. The epic bicycle trip from coast to coast, from. Was akin to two months in a prayer closet! Please be assured of my th...

Day 52, Wait, Wait … Love that 3-Wood « Recycling my Retirement

https://recycleretire.wordpress.com/2011/04/24/day-52-wait-wait-love-that-3-wood

Day 52, Wait, Wait … Love that 3-Wood. April 24, 2011. My final rest day on the WomanTours southern tier cross-country tour. We’re outside Crawfordville at the Inn at Wildwood, which is next to a golf course. After a shower and lunch at the golf course cafe, I tucked myself away in my room to start catching up on nearly two months of Wait, Wait Don’t … Tell Me and try to figure out what to write in this rest day blog. This entry was posted in Southern Tier 2011. Day 51, Quincy to Crawfordville, 48 miles.

Day 53, Crawfordville to Perry, 54 miles. April 25, 2011. A few weeks ago our cue sheets were printed on both sides with right and left turns every few miles. On those days I felt like a rat riding a bicycle in a maze. The last couple of days our cue sheets have been incredibly simple. For example, today it directed us to turn left out of the motel, turn right at 52 miles, ride 1.6 more miles to the motel. Nothing much happened on the ride today. No dog chases, no dead armadillos, no revelations. You are...

The Journey Is Complete « Recycling my Retirement

https://recycleretire.wordpress.com/2011/05/09/the-journey-is-complete

The Journey Is Complete. May 9, 2011. My BFF, eos, made it home this morning. I feel that the Congratulations and Welcome Home are for both me and my bicycle. We made across the country together. I lost a little weight and she gained a little with all of the dirt and sand accumulated over the 2,800 miles. I’m taking her to the spa. I have added a link to Lisa Meerts-Brandsma’s last article in the Durango Herald on May 1, “What we kept after we threw out the dishwater.”. Looking in the Rear View Mirror.

Day 54, Perry to High Springs, 76 miles. April 26, 2011. Once I again I’m reminded why I love living in Humboldt County. Today’s ride was hot and humid. My cycle computer read 102 degrees at one point this afternoon. We started in the morning under overcast skies. It kept the heat down, but we were riding on US 27 for the first 45 miles. I was somewhat cool, still sweating because of the humidity, and generally bored with riding a straight highway. What do you at the end of a long hot ride? This does not...

Monthly Archives: March 2011. Day 28, Vanderpool to Kerrville, 50 miles. March 31, 2011. It was an unexpectedly cool morning, in the 40s. We were treated to baked French Toast, oh yum – melt in your mouth good that I had a second serving. We were all late in leaving since it was warm and cozy in the main house at Fox Fire Cabins. None us failed to dress warmly this morning as we had yesterday. I am ready for the rest day. I don’t know if today’s lack of energy is a culmination of 7 days o...PS Even thoug...

Day 56, Polatka to St Augustine, 47 miles. April 28, 2011. Despite the heat and humidity, the last day’s ride was beautiful. There were even a couple of interesting mail boxes to share with you. Dead armadillos – 1. Total dead armadillos on the trip – 24. I arrived at the Atlantic Ocean…. I couldn’t have done it without my friends, everyone who commented on the blog, every rider on this trip, and all of the supportive comments on my Pisces scarf. Day 55, High Springs to Polatka, 73 miles. April 27, 2011. Another hot and humid day with a head wind. I welcomed the wind to keep me slightly cooler. Despite the heat, we’ve actually been extraordinarily lucky with the weather. I’m sure you’ve seen the reports of the deadly weather that has been slamming the eastern half of the nation the last few weeks. Dead armadillos – 1. Dogs – 1 chase with 3 dogs. Monthly Archives: February 2011. Last training ride, not. February 28, 2011. I think it’s a good thing that I didn’t browse through Southern Tier blogs of earlier years. I’ve read postings about snow, strong head winds, the motel in Jacumba right next to the US-Mexico border fence and Border Patrol helicopters flying all night long, etc. I’m looking forward to the adventure, whether it’s good weather or bad, pleasant experiences or not. San Diego, here I come. Two Training Rides Left. February 27, 2011.

Newer posts →. Day 51, Quincy to Crawfordville, 48 miles. April 23, 2011. The first 34 miles were on quiet back roads in a morning fog. The fog was not think enough to be unsafe. It created a interesting ethereal feel. It did however keep the sunglasses steamed up so that most of us rode without them until the fog lifted. The next 14 miles were on a relatively busy highway through a variety of strip malls. Boring…. Day 50, Marianna to Quincy, 54 miles. April 22, 2011. Goldilocks and the Three Pillows.

May 26, 2017. LOOK, A TRAIN! LOOK, a HEART! I am proud of you he said. Thank you Uncle Jack , I said. I don’t know if we shared a sandwich next or some amazing culinary creation he had created and brought for us to picnic with on that mountain vista, but I do remember the climb up into those heavenly clouds full of hearts. Years later I would return to Arizona as an adult to visit with my aunt and uncle and My uncle Jack would take me hiking once again. Prior to Uncle Jack passing and while he could stil...
