Cycling the Boot of Italy

Cycling the Boot of Italy. Reflections On Our Trip. Back home again, and we’ve taken a couple of days to reset our internal clocks and reflect on the experience. We were gone for 38 days, were on the road with our bikes for 31, and rode 22 days, for a total of 867 miles (39 miles per day average). And the roadside fruit and vegetable stands are to die for. The options for an evening meal are unlimited. Suffice it to say, we did not lose any weight on this expedition! Eating In Southern Italy. Eating here...

Cycling the Boot of Italy. Notes From The Saddle 3. Eating In Southern Italy →. Leaving the Gargano behind. The beach at Vasto. And today was our final day of riding on this trip! We cycled from Ortona to Pescara with virtually no wind and more sun than we have seen in a while. The high today was right around 60; a great temperature for biking. And the last 6 miles was on a beach bike path; a fitting end to an amazing trip! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

Cycling the Boot of Italy. Then we tried to decide where. As we had never been south of Rome, we thought it best to visit some new places. As we researched more and more, we got the idea of “let’s ride around the entire ‘boot’. ” So here we are. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Cycling the Boot of Italy. Riding Among Italian Drivers →. Notes From The Saddle 2. Continuing to have some great rides everyday; sunny, high seventies and even some eighties, and fairly humid (can not image doing this in August! The Ionian Sea at Marina di Ginosa. Roman bridge across the gorge, Gravina in Puglia. Cave dwellings and Sassi in the gorge. Typical country road in le Murge. In the afternoon we made our way across an area called Le Murge (a high rocky plateau) to Castel del Monte, another UNES...

Cycling the Boot of Italy. Sword fish on pureed chick peas. When you order wine in Abruzzo, you get some interesting appetizers with your order. More wine appetizers; our favorite was fennel root au gratin; squash casserole and green beans with barley were also amazing (as was the Pecorino wine). Spicy pork sausages with pureed fava beans. Nico’s pasta with fresh salmon. Aged mozzarella cheese on the right; delicious! Cavallo steak (horse); delicious and very common in Puglia. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Alaska to Argentina by Bicycle. In April 2012, we embarked on an incredible cycling Journey that would take us from Anchorage, Alaska to the Southernmost town in the world, Ushuaia, Argentina. We travelled through fourteen countries, pedaled over 28,000 km, and met some of the kindest people on the planet. An epic endeavor, to say the least, but we have enjoyed every minute of it, and have discovered that it is pretty incredible what one can accomplish by just chipping away at a goal. CYCLING IRELAND'S COAST - BLOG: STAGE 3 : CORK TO GALWAY 2012

BLOG: STAGE 3 : CORK TO GALWAY 2012. BLOG: STAGE 2 BELFAST TO CORK. For 2012 my plan is to cycle the coast from Cork to Galway (approx 1000 km) and to camp out if a calm pleasant evening comes my way. For this stage (Cork to Galway) I had 24 lbs in the rear panniers (which included camping gear) of the bike – I used the Giant Hybrid for this stage rather than the Specialized Tricross. It is a heavier machine so I expected speeds to be down. My steed for this stage. Day 1 Monday July 16. 2012. I checked i...
